Crouseilles can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: wine culture at Château de Crouseilles, architectural history, outdoor art, and a signposted walking route through the park and the rows of vines. These offerings provide concrete ways to get started.

Experience the wine and discover more

Cave de Crouseilles was founded in 1950 by pioneering winegrowers. Château de Crouseilles offers wine tastings and direct sales of a wide selection of wines year-round. Direct sales are available seven days a week. Wine tasting and buying wine are therefore two distinct reasons to visit.

Guided tours in Crouseilles include the facilities, vineyard, terroir, wine cellar, and the cellars used for winemaking and aging. Another option is the Château's wine-themed escape game, in which participants search for the monks of Madiran's sacred elixir. The tour focuses on the places and processes involved in wine production, while the game explores wine culture through a narrative challenge. Terroir refers to the distinctive characteristics of a wine-growing area. The term draws attention to the context in which the grapes are grown, while the cellars used for winemaking and aging show how the wine is made; the tour therefore connects agriculture with cellar work.

Architectural history and outdoor art

In 1385, Château de Crouseilles was a seigneurie, with a keep and stone walls standing on a motte. In 1737, the new owner gave the Château its present elegant manor-house appearance, with two pavilions at the ends of the main building. The medieval fortifications and the later manor-house design thus represent two clearly distinct phases of construction. A motte is an artificially raised mound, which explains the elevated base of the fortifications. Seigneurie refers to a historical form of lordship; the term places the Château within the social and political order of the time in 1385.

The 7 Folies de Crouseilles offer a different focus: this outdoor art trail combines poetic sculptures with nature. Alongside the Château's architectural history, art unfolds in the open air. Educational booklets for adults and children are available in the Château boutique.

Walking between the vines and the Château

The “Entre vignes et château” walking route is signposted as Route No. 10 in Crouseilles. It leads into the park of Château de Crouseilles and follows a broad avenue between the rows of vines. A highlight of the route is its view of the Pyrenees. The Château also offers an exceptional panoramic view of the vineyards and the Pyrenees range: the route and the view from the Château thus offer different perspectives on the landscape. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
