Castetnau-Camblong lies on the Camino de Santiago and has a remarkable traditional architectural heritage. In the village centre, houses cluster around the village square, lined with plane trees. This gives you two distinct ways to choose your destination: the pilgrimage route and the history of local buildings. The chapel, houses and bridge provide different points of reference in the history of the area’s architecture; the Les ponts de pierre circular trail adds a walking route with a specific distance and approximate duration. You can therefore tailor your stay to the theme that matters most to you: the pilgrimage route, walking or architectural history.

Chapel, houses and bridge

A chapel was built in the Gare district in 1872. In the Bas-de-Bordes neighbourhood, there are beautiful houses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. The dates clearly distinguish the buildings: the chapel is from the 19th century, while the houses date from two earlier centuries. This offers a glimpse of different building periods in the village, rather than assigning everything to a single era. The Pont de Camblong also reflects several stages in its history. The bridge dates back to Roman times and was later adapted for use by 20th-century machinery. This sequence shows that a building’s age and its later use are two different aspects of its history.

The Les ponts de pierre circular trail

The Les ponts de pierre circular trail is 8.7 km long and takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes. It starts at the information board in front of the town hall and follows the GR® 65, the Camino de Santiago. This provides both a precise route distance and an approximate duration for planning your walk. The distance in kilometres answers the question of how long the route is, while the approximate time gives you an idea of how much time to allow. Check the trail conditions before setting out, as they may change. On the GR® 65, the route crosses the Pont de Camblong and the Lausset River there; it then continues through a forest and across a ford.

Walks, visits and events

Castetnau loisirs organises walks in the mountains and countryside, as well as visits; dates may vary. If one of these activities is important to you, check the date in advance rather than basing your other plans on it. Village festivities are held over the weekend around 15 August. Check the current programme if you would like to time your trip to coincide with the festivities.

For practical planning, the circular trail and organised activities differ: the trail has a stated distance and approximate duration, while dates for walks and visits organised by Castetnau loisirs may vary. You can therefore first decide whether to plan around a route with an approximate duration or make an activity with a confirmed date the focus of your trip.
