Several walking routes give Villeneuve-De-Duras a clear connection to vineyards, forests and Ente plum orchards. The routes can be distinguished by their starting point, character and cultural interest. A family-run wine estate and a picnic area are also practical points of reference when planning your stay.
Walking routes through vineyards, forests and plum orchards
The circular route “Villeneuve-de-Duras, à l'orée de la Gironde” starts in Villeneuve-de-Duras and passes through vineyards, forests and Ente plum orchards. Almost the entire “Saint-Léger, entre bois, vignes et vergers de pruniers” route features the same types of landscape. This circuit is very easy and offers beautiful viewpoints. The “Le Moulin de Marquet, dans les vignes de Villeneuve-de-Duras” circuit also runs almost entirely through vineyards and forests; it also passes a few Ente plum orchards and viewpoints. As part of the area's architectural heritage, this route also takes in the Church of Saint-Léger.
All three routes share vineyards, forests and Ente plum orchards. Their starting points, difficulty levels and additional sights offer different ways to choose between them: one circuit starts in the village, the Saint-Léger circuit is considered very easy, and the Le Moulin circuit also includes the church. Check the route information before setting out, as details may change.
Windmills, wayside crosses and the Church of Saint-Léger
Villeneuve-de-Duras has two windmills. One is very well preserved and offers beautiful viewpoints. There are also two wayside crosses in the village centre, while the Church of Saint-Léger is included as architectural heritage on the Le Moulin circuit. The village centre and the walking route thus provide different points of interest for a visit that includes local heritage as well as scenery.
Wine estate, tastings and plums
Domaine des Allégrets is a family-run wine estate that has been in operation for more than 500 years. Several generations of a wine-growing family lived and worked there, united by their shared passion for wine. Alongside wine, the estate also produces plums and prunes. Plums are therefore a feature both of the orchards along the walking routes and of the family business's produce.
One variation of the “Le Moulin de Marquet, dans les vignes de Villeneuve-de-Duras” circuit passes close to Domaine des Allégrets. The estate offers guided tours and wine tastings; check the arrangements for visits before you arrive. This connects the area's wine-growing landscape with a specific visitor offering, without conflating the tours with the route itself.
Picnic area at the edge of the village
At the edge of Villeneuve-de-Duras, on the road to Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, there is a covered picnic area with tables. It provides a convenient place to take a break during your stay. Check the condition of the area before your visit.
