At the Église Saint-Caprais, two building periods meet: the Romanesque choir dates from the 12th century, while the Gothic nave dates from the 16th century. Other features include a choir bay with a pendentive dome and a Romanesque south portal, also dating from the 12th century. The choir was protected by a decree dated 7 January 1926. This provides a clear architectural focus for planning your visit: the choir, portal and nave can be distinguished by their architectural features and dates.
Windmill and rural landscape
The restored windmill at the place called “le baladé” lies along walking trails and has become a landmark of Saint-Caprais-de-Lerm. The landscape also shapes the village: hills, woods and meadows are part of its rural character. When planning a stay here, you can treat culture and outdoor activity as separate priorities rather than trying to fit both into a fixed daily itinerary. The windmill provides a distinct local landmark, while the trails reveal other aspects of the hilly surroundings.
Circular trails on foot, by bike or on horseback
Three circular trails are among the short walking routes of the Agenais and can be used on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The Lagravette circular trail starts in Saint-Caprais-de-Lerm, is marked with colored signs and is 10.4 kilometers long. A route sheet updated on 8 January 2021 gives journey times of 2 hours 40 minutes on foot, 1 hour 50 minutes on horseback and 1 hour 20 minutes by mountain bike. These figures make it easy to compare the times for the three modes of travel: the stated time is longest on foot and shortest by mountain bike. Check trail conditions before setting out.
The Magastau circular trail highlights the landscape of the Pays de Serres. The route follows long ridgelines and offers wide views of the surrounding hills and villages. It also runs along the shore of a lake and then follows a compacted gravel path. Magastau therefore offers not only a hilly route, but also a transition between lakeshore and gravel path. The d’Artagnan equestrian route is also listed in Saint-Caprais-de-Lerm as a horseback riding option.
Plan transport and events
Several details are provided for trips using the demand-responsive transport service: Route 21 runs Monday to Saturday from the town hall. It can take you to the center of Agen and to the neighboring towns of Sauvagnas and Bon-Encontre. If you plan to use this connection during your stay, check the latest service and timetable information before travelling.
A report dated 17 January 2025 lists the beer festival (“fête de la bière”) and the gourmet market (“marché gourmand”) among the three annual events in Saint-Caprais-de-Lerm. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the events, check the dates in advance. Together with the church, windmill and circular trails, these events provide further details to help plan a stay.
