For a trip to Puch-D'agenais, three themes offer a practical guide: the architectural history of Château Saint-Christophe and the churches, a circular route with viewpoints, and the Musée de la Falotte. Practical planning also differs: the route calls for considering the time required and local conditions, while a museum visit requires an appointment. This makes it easy to choose between architecture, outdoor activity and natural history.

Château Saint-Christophe and the Architectural History of the Churches

Château Saint-Christophe has been partially protected as a historic monument since November 29, 2004. It includes a residential wing from the 17th century to the north and a wing dating from the First Empire to the south. The buildings are arranged around two courtyards. The contrast between the building phases and the courtyard layout offer two different ways to understand the complex: its development over time and its spatial organization.

The Church of Vignes is a medieval building dating from the 15th century that was rebuilt in the 16th century. It was carefully restored around two decades before June 2024. Since 2023, the church has housed an art gallery founded by the Puch-d’Agenais Village d’Artistes association. Exhibitions vary; if the gallery is a key part of your trip, check the current program in advance.

The Church of Saint-Jean de Lompian also has medieval origins and was altered between the 16th and 19th centuries. Its architectural history therefore spans several centuries. Together with the different building phases at Vignes, it offers another way to explore the architectural history of the area.

Circular Route with Two Viewpoints

The circular route “Puch-d’Agenais, dans les terrasse de Garonne” is 6.2 kilometers long and starts at the town hall car park. It takes about two hours on foot and 45 minutes by mountain bike; the surface and conditions may affect these times. The route guide was updated in 2020. Check local conditions and parking arrangements at the starting point before setting off.

One viewpoint offers a view across the Lot and Garonne valleys, with the Pech de Berre in the background. Vegetation and visibility at this viewpoint vary by season. Another viewpoint looks out over the confluence and the hills above Tonneins. The route therefore highlights two different views: the river valleys with the Pech de Berre, and the confluence with the hills above it.

Musée de la Falotte: Collection and Nature Trail

The Musée de la Falotte displays more than 7,000 minerals, fossils, corals, shells and sands from around the world. The collection brings together a range of natural materials and finds, making it a distinct attraction alongside the architectural history and walking route.

The museum also offers a guided nature trail introducing the wild flora that grows along the route. The collection and trail offer different points of interest: the museum focuses on minerals, fossils, corals, shells and sands, while the trail explores wild plant life. Guided tours of the nature trail are available by arrangement.

Museum visits are possible by appointment only, whether self-guided or guided. Arrange your visit in advance. By the canal, the Musée de la Falotte also has a nature rest area with picnic tables, a motorhome parking area and parking facilities. Confirm that these facilities are available before you arrive.
