Two distinctly different circular routes are a highlight of Mauvezin-sur-Gupie; other attractions include church architecture, horse riding, pétanque and regional produce. When choosing where to stay, it is worth considering the route length and elevation gain, as well as the conditions for individual activities.
Choose circular routes by length and scenery
The circular route “Mauvezin, balade dans les coteaux de la Gupie” starts and ends in Mauvezin-sur-Gupie. It is 5.4 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 140 metres. Along the way, enjoy views over the valleys of Caubon and the Gupie; the route follows shaded paths and panoramic tracks through the vineyards. This circular route is rated very easy for walking and mountain biking.
The route “Mauvezin, entre Gupie et Caubon” is longer, at 11.5 kilometres, with an elevation gain of 225 metres. It can be used for walking, mountain biking and horse riding, and passes through the traditional rolling landscapes of the Marmandais, among vineyards, forests and meadows. The route guide, updated on 12 November 2020, names the town hall square in Mauvezin-sur-Gupie as the starting point; check trail conditions before setting out.
In a direct comparison, the second loop is 6.1 kilometres longer and has an additional 85 metres of elevation gain. The “very easy” rating applies only to the 5.4-kilometre loop, and only for walking and mountain biking. This makes it possible to distinguish between the two routes using specific details, without equating their landscapes or permitted activities.
Churches, art and local history
The Église de Mauvezin is listed as a Historic Monument; it was listed on 23 September 1958. The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Mauvezin-sur-Gupie is known for its inverted ship-hull-shaped roof structure, dating from the late 16th century. The church also contains trompe-l’œil compositions associated with Masutti, which work began on in 1942.
The former seigneurial castle of Mauvezin is also part of the area's history: it was a 13th-century fortress and was demolished in the 1930s. Almost no traces of it remain. Near the former presbytery is a covered well, surrounded by a small round structure topped with a dome and enclosed by a protective railing.
Horse riding, pétanque and regional produce
The Centre Équestre de Gabaurias is located in Mauvezin-sur-Gupie on a 32-hectare site with 6,500 square metres of buildings. Its activities include riding lessons and courses, trail rides and equestrian tourism, taking part in competitions, and vocational training. The centre is open year-round by appointment. Confirm your visit time and the availability of your chosen activity before you arrive.
La Boule Mauvezinoise holds public pétanque games every Saturday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. in the Mêlée format, in which teams are drawn at random. As this regular event may change, check before visiting.
Conserverie REGAUD traditionally produces regional specialities in Mauvezin-sur-Gupie, including duck and goose pâtés, foie gras specialities, confits, pâtés, ready meals, smoked duck breast and duck sausages.
