A viewpoint, riverside trails and distinctive buildings give Mugron many different facets. From the Belvédère de la Chalosse, the view stretches across the Landes forest and the rolling landscape of Chalosse. Along the Adour, you can also go for walks or canoe trips. You can plan your stay around scenery, activities on the water or culture.
Scenery and trails around Mugron
Near Mugron, the Sentier de l’Adour forms part of an approximately 130-kilometre trail for active travel between Dax and Aire-sur-l’Adour. It offers a longer route for anyone who wants to explore Mugron as part of a journey along the river. The Itinéraire nautique de l’Adour offers a different perspective: this developed canoe route runs from Aire-sur-l’Adour to Mugron, with designated access points to the river. Walking and canoeing are two different ways to experience the Adour.
Two of the described circular routes start at Place Chantilly. “A Mugron – Circuit à la découverte de la vallée de l’Adour” leads over the slopes above the Adour and along the Voie Verte de Chalosse, with panoramic views along the way. “A Mugron – Circuit du Port” also follows the Voie Verte and offers views of the Landes forest and the Adour Valley. Another circular route, “A Mugron et Poyanne – Circuit entre Adour et Voie Verte”, follows the Voie Verte de Chalosse, which runs along a former railway line, and connects the Louts and the Adour. The different landscapes can help you choose a route. Before setting off, check local information about trail conditions and signage.
The Étang de la Saucille is also located on the Adour. This body of water covers almost four hectares and is managed by the AAPPMA de Mugron. Fishing with a permit and a shaded picnic area are available there. If you plan to fish, check the current rules beforehand; information about facilities can also change.
Heritage and walking routes in town
The freely accessible Parcours du patrimoine de Mugron is a walking route that takes you past 20 marked heritage sites. It offers a way to explore several heritage locations independently. Notable buildings include the Arènes de Condrette, built in 1911 and with seating for 2,500. Courses landaises are held there during local summer festivals; the programme may vary from year to year.
The Chai d’Antin is a 17th-century wine cellar with its monumental roof structure preserved. The upper floor displays works by painters, photographers, sculptors and other selected artists. As the exhibition programme may change, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit. The architecture of the Église Saint-Laurent can be read from its floor plan: a nave, two aisles and a projecting transept form a Latin cross.
Experiences for different interests
“Le petit explorateur” is a walking route through the town centre for children aged 6 to 12, with riddles and scavenger-hunt games. It combines exploring the town with playful activities; details may change, so check the latest information beforehand.
Another stop is the Verger conservatoire de Peyranet. The orchard is open to everyone year-round, and an information board shows the different fruit varieties. Check local information about access before travelling there. Together with the viewpoint, riverside trails and the Parcours du patrimoine, the orchard adds another distinctive dimension to Mugron: here, the focus is on fruit varieties and on finding your way around the site.
