Luglon’s notable attractions include the Church of Saint-Laurent-et-Saint-Girons and its preserved Landes houses, the curving fountain in the village square, and summer Landes-style races. There are also themed evenings at Maison Garbay and an easy road cycling route. This gives you a practical choice when planning your trip, whether you are interested in architecture, village life or cycling.
Church and local architectural styles
The Church of Saint-Laurent-et-Saint-Girons was completely rebuilt in 1900–1902 on the site of the original church building. Its square bell-tower porch is a distinctive feature of its exterior. The stained-glass windows were installed in 1901 by the Bordeaux glass painter G.-P. Dagrant. The building and its fittings can therefore each be associated with a specific period.
Traditional Landes houses have also been preserved in Luglon and illustrate the local architecture. In the scattered hamlet of Machon, an oven, a raised chicken coop and a well with a counterweight form part of the rural heritage. Alongside the houses, Machon offers another glimpse of local architectural styles and rural life.
Village square and cycling route
The curving fountain in the village square symbolises the springs of the Grande Leyre. It complements the architectural styles of the church and houses with a local landscape feature.
One option for travellers interested in cycling is the route “A Luglon, à travers un territoire en mutation”. It is an easy road cycling route that starts at Place de l’église in Luglon. As the starting point may change, it is best to check the latest route information before setting off.
In connection with the cycling route, Graine de Forêt is a fun and educational discovery centre dedicated to the Landes forest. The tour begins in an 18th-century half-timbered house, follows an educational trail through the forest and ends at a nursery, where visitors can sow a maritime pine seed. Videos, dynamic models, exhibitions and interactive games are also included. While the route is an easy road cycling tour, Graine de Forêt offers a fun and educational introduction to the Landes forest.
Summer festivities and Maison Garbay
Luglon’s traditional summer festivities include Landes-style races. If you are planning your trip around a particular event, check the dates in advance. Maison Garbay regularly hosts themed evenings, such as concert dinners, karaoke and performances. These events differ in their timing: the races are part of the summer festivities, while the themed evenings take place regularly.
Maison Garbay is also a meeting place for friends, neighbours and travellers passing through Luglon. Lunch is available by reservation; drinks on the terrace are offered in summer. If you plan to eat there or use the terrace, check the reservation requirements or seasonal availability in advance.
