Those considering Kadrina as a destination will find a range of options for activity and culture: Kadrina terviserada includes artificial-snow trails and other sports facilities, while Katariina Church combines architectural history with historic furnishings. Kadrina is also a stop on the Tallinn–Narva railway line. Trail length, seasonal use and history each offer a different focus for planning your trip.

Trails and sports facilities

Kadrina terviserada includes three artificial-snow trails measuring 2.4 km, 1.7 km and 1 km. They are used year-round for exercise and for skiing in winter. The shortest and longest trails differ in length by 1.4 km; the 1.7 km trail is exactly between them. You can compare the trails by length and take seasonal use into account when planning.

Kadrina terviserada also has a low ropes course and a bike park with jumps and a pump track. A lit sledding hill and an ice rink round out the facilities. The options listed therefore range from the bike park and low ropes course to winter activities.

Kadrina Paisjärve kergliiklustee is intended for Nordic walking, fitness running and walking. Kadrina Paisjärve rannavõrkpalliplats is designated for beach volleyball. Kadrina Spordikeskus has a sports hall, an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a wrestling room, a shooting range and a table tennis hall.

Different criteria matter when making your choice: for the artificial-snow trails, these are length and season; for the other facilities, the relevant sport. This lets you consider whether to plan your stay around trail activities, a particular sport or several interests.

Railway and architectural history

Kadrina is a stop on the Tallinn–Narva railway line. Since train schedules may change, check the connection for your travel date. The access point to the Penijõe-Aegviidu-Kauksi hiking trail is near the destination, 0.5 km from Kadrina railway station.

The second station building at Kadrina was built in 1898 to the same design as the buildings in Auvere, Kehra, Kohtla and Lehtse. Unlike those buildings, it was constructed of wood and decorated with elaborate wood carvings. Here, you can compare its shared design with the buildings mentioned and its distinctive wooden construction with carved decoration.

Katariina Church and its furnishings

Kadrina Katariina Church is a religious building dating from the 15th century. Its thick walls and vaulted rooms suggest that the church may also have served a defensive function. Inside the church is a nearly life-size ash-wood crucifix with a figure of Christ, brought from Germany in 1490. The present organ was purchased in Saint Petersburg in 1895.

The period of construction, the possible defensive function and the history of the crucifix and organ offer different historical perspectives. If you would like to hear organ music in the church, this is possible by prior arrangement; make arrangements before your trip.
