Troubsko reveals itself on different scales: a castle and the Chapel of All Saints tell of several building phases, while the Troubský potok flows through the village from northwest to southeast. Added to these are the gently rolling terrain, a local folk costume tradition and the regularly held Svatodušní slavnosti. These different themes can help you assess the character of the destination according to your own interests when choosing where to stay.
Troubsko Castle: predecessor structure and later alterations
The present-day castle was preceded by a Gothic fortress or fortified manor, a predecessor structure mentioned as early as the late 15th century. Construction of the castle began in 1573 in the Renaissance style; in 1660 it was converted into a simple Baroque building. These dates refer to different stages: the mention of the predecessor structure, the start of construction of the castle and a later alteration. The castle has a park with two castle pavilions, built when the park was laid out in the early 19th century. The castle is in poor condition.
Chapel of All Saints and protected buildings
The Chapel of All Saints adds a later building phase to the history of the castle. Construction began in 1795; it was solemnly consecrated on 29 September 1798. The single-nave building has a polygonal apse and a four-sided tower. “Single-nave” describes a building with one nave; a polygonal apse is a polygonal-ended section. Stylistically, the chapel stands at the transition from Baroque to Classicism. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Chapel of All Saints have been listed as immovable cultural monuments since 1958.
Basin setting and stream course
Troubsko lies nearly in the middle of the so-called “Troubsko-střelická kotlina” basin, forms a northeastern extension of the “Dyjsko-svratecký úval” and is surrounded by the “Bobravská vrchovina.” The terrain is gently rolling. These details describe different spatial levels: the location within the basin, its relationship to the larger landscape area and the surrounding highlands. The Troubský potok flows through Troubsko from northwest to southeast, takes in two small tributaries there and joins the Bobrava from the left at Anenský mlýn. Thus, the regional setting and a specifically named watercourse offer different perspectives on the landscape.
Local traditions and getting there
The folk costume also tells a story of historical development: following the movement around the ethnographic exhibition in the 1890s, the Troubsko folk costume acquired “national” embroidery in red, blue and yellow. The Podskalák ensemble regularly holds the Svatodušní slavnosti, helping to preserve local traditions. If these festivities are important to your trip, check the dates and programme in advance.
