Gorge and hilly landscape

Drahonín lies in the hilly landscape of Vysočina. When choosing a nature excursion, Trenckova rokle is a distinctive landmark: it is a short, very steep gorge where a small stream forms waterfalls and cascades. This gives you a clear distinction when planning your trip between the gorge and the marked hiking destinations that start in Drahonín.

Trenckova rokle is designated a natural monument. The protected area covers the cadastral areas of Drahonín and Víckov; the green shield-moss (Buxbaumia viridis) is among the features protected by the natural monument. Fixed ropes are installed on exposed sections around the waterfalls and cascades. As safety equipment in the terrain may change, check current conditions before setting out. Local tradition also associates the gorge with Baron Trenck: the renowned Pandur is said to have hidden there from the soldiers of Empress Maria Theresa.

Hiking trails between castle and valley

If you are choosing a hike from Drahonín, you can compare two different destinations: a green-marked hiking route starts in the village and leads to the ruins of Košíkov Castle. Around Drahonín, remnants of the walls of a massive prism-shaped tower, as well as traces of the walls and outer bailey, remain from the castle. The route from Drahonín via Šafránkův mlýn to Tišnov, by contrast, descends into the valley of the Loučka River and joins the red-marked trail towards Tišnov there. One option focuses on the castle ruins, the other on the mill, the valley and the connection towards Tišnov. Conditions on the green-marked route may vary; check them before setting out.

Culture and history

The route via Šafránkův mlýn also has a historical dimension: the mill in the Loučka valley dates from 1666. The Šafránkova lovecká chata, built in 1939 and designed by Bohuslav Fuchs, also stands near Drahonín. In the village, the Chapel of Christ the King was consecrated in 1935; festive services are held there. These places offer different points of interest: the mill and valley are part of the route, the hunting lodge adds an architectural-historical dimension, and the chapel has a religious connection.

Another cultural opportunity is the annual gathering of accordion players at the open-air venue in Drahonín during the summer. Check the specific event dates before your trip so you can plan your visit around them.

Outdoor swimming pool and getting there

Koupaliště Drahonín outdoor swimming pool is in the lower part of the village, next to the sports complex. It has a children's paddling pool and a 25 × 12 metre pool; the water is regularly cleaned and chemically treated. Facilities include grassy sunbathing areas, a diving tower, a snack stand and sanitary facilities. The pool adds another activity in Drahonín to the hiking and cultural attractions.

Drahonín is part of the South Moravian Region Integrated Transport System (IDS JMK). If you are travelling by public transport, check the timetable for your specific travel date; timetables may change.
