The chapel’s history, local traditions and marked trails give Vrbice several specific points of interest for a stay. Alongside the history of the chapel, the village’s character includes a striking wooden house, hiking and cycling options, and views of the surrounding hills. Local culture and outdoor activities therefore offer distinct interests, each with specific features.

Chapel, Traditions and Village Square

The chapel of “Panny Marie – Prostřednice všech milostí” was built in 1949. Its picturesque decoration was created by Alois Martan, and it was extensively reconstructed in 2012. Its construction, decoration and later reconstruction mark different aspects of its history. The traditional date of the pilgrimage is 8 May; however, some present-day celebrations may take place on a nearby date.

Local traditions take place in the park around the chapel. They include raising a Maypole, commemorating the burning of Master Jan Hus, and decorating a Christmas tree. At Easter, boys and girls walk through the village with wooden rattles. These examples range from traditions held in the park to an Easter custom that takes place throughout the village.

A half-timbered wooden house with a wooden gallery stands out in particular on the village square. The chapel brings together its construction date, artistic decoration and reconstruction; the wooden house, by contrast, draws attention to its building style and gallery. Different aspects of local architecture are therefore in focus.

Walking and Cycling Routes

The blue-marked “Klostermannova cesta” hiking route and the marked cycling route No. 1068 Strakonice–Vacov pass through Vrbice. In its full course, Klostermannova cesta runs from Volyně via Javorník to Kašperské Hory. This describes both a hiking route with a named itinerary and a marked cycling route passing through the village.

The “Krajem pod Javorníkem” excursion route includes Vrbice as a stage. It is accessible on foot and to experienced cyclists. When choosing a route, several different features are therefore relevant: Klostermannova cesta’s blue marking and itinerary, the marking of cycling route No. 1068, and the stated accessibility of the excursion route for both types of travel. Cyclists on that route should be experienced.

The routes also differ in how they include Vrbice: Klostermannova cesta and cycling route No. 1068 pass through the village, while Vrbice is included as a stage on “Krajem pod Javorníkem.” This distinction helps you compare the routes by their course and role in planning.

Landscape and Surroundings

The landscape around Vrbice offers interesting views of the hills of BoubĂn, BobĂk and JavornĂk. The nearby area also has a swimming pool and the Rohanov campsite. If you plan to visit either, check the current conditions in advance, as facility details may change.
