An approximately 3 km circular trail leads to important cultural monuments in Netolice. The Historická krajina Netolicko educational trail route has 16 stops with information panels in three languages. This gives you a thematic introduction to the town’s cultural history along the route; other sights focus on archaeology, architecture and landscape.
Circular Trail, Cycling Route and Archaeopark
The short circular trail is approximately 3 km long. Check the signs and trail conditions on site. There is also a separate option for cyclists: the Historická krajina Netolicko cycling route passes through gently rolling terrain on paved paths and can be divided into several shorter sections. The two options therefore differ in how they can be planned: an approximate total length is given for the circular trail, while the cycling route can be divided into sections.
At Netolice Archaeopark, visitors can access a parapet walk and enjoy views of the town over the palisade. This adds a specific vantage point over Netolice to the walks along the trails. Those interested in earlier settlement and fortifications will find another notable landmark on St. John’s Hill: the Přemyslid hillfort preserves the massive ramparts of the former princely administrative castle.
Renaissance, Churches and Collections
The Muzeum JUDr. Otakara Kudrny is housed in the Renaissance building Rožmberský dům. Sgraffito survives on the façades, and the building has an arcade frontage. The museum’s collection offers another focus: as of June 8, 2026, it comprised more than 170,000 original historical postcards. The architecture and collection thus offer two distinct points of interest for a visit—the building itself and the historical scenes preserved inside it.
The churches in Netolice can also be compared by period. The Church of St. Wenceslas is an originally Gothic building with Romanesque elements, dating from the second half of the 13th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was also built in the second half of the 13th century, in the Gothic style. The two churches share the same period of construction; the Church of St. Wenceslas additionally incorporates Romanesque elements into its originally Gothic building.
Historic Landscape and Excursions
KratochvĂle Chateau, a Renaissance hunting lodge, lies approximately 2 km northwest of Netolice. If you are planning a visit, check access details separately. The PodrouĹľek pond covers 30 ha and is used for swimming. Check the current conditions if you are planning to swim there.
The former Rožmberk Netolice game preserve also offers a broader perspective on the area’s history. This site, unique for its historical, landscape and heritage value, extended west of the edge of Netolice across the present-day administrative areas of Netolice, Lhenice, Hracholusky and Malovice. Its former extent makes clear that the cultural landscape did not end at the town limits; the places named here mark administrative areas, not a prescribed excursion route.
