Mahouš combines its location on the southwestern edge of the Zbudovské Blata with several specific points of interest for an exploratory trip: a forge in the Blata architectural style, farmsteads and a marked educational cycling trail. There is also an annual tractor gathering. This brings architectural and landscape features together with an event that takes place on a specific date. Visitors can choose to focus on village history, a cycling trip or the event programme.

Landscape and Local History

Mahouš lies on the southwestern edge of the Zbudovské Blata. Around 1300, the village belonged to the estates of Zlatá Koruna Monastery. Its location and local history offer two different perspectives: the landscape places Mahouš in its geographical context, while its early connection with the monastery provides a historical reference. The architectural examples add specific details from the village to these perspectives, making building culture a focus in its own right.

Comparing Architectural Styles

At Forge No. 35, function and design come together: it is connected to a residential building, and its gable is designed in the Blata architectural style. Farmstead No. 26 is a protected monument. By contrast, the focus at Farmstead No. 5 is its floor plan: it is laid out lengthwise and was created by joining two buildings that originally had their gables facing the street. Those interested in architecture can compare different aspects here: the connection between the forge and the residence, the protected status of a farmstead, and the creation of a lengthwise floor plan.

A Gothic stone wayside shrine stands on the west side of the village green. A Baroque niche chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands on the road to Němčice. These two religious buildings broaden the perspective beyond farmstead and craft architecture. The wayside shrine and chapel differ in location and period style: Gothic in one case, Baroque in the other. For those interested in building culture, rural farmsteads and craft use sit alongside religious forms.

Cycling Route and Event Date

The marked “Historická krajina Netolicko” educational cycling trail passes through Mahouš and goes by the forge, one of its attractions. The route has 16 information-board stops in total. The route’s path and the forge give it a specific connection to the village, while the stops provide the framework for the educational trail. This makes it possible to experience Mahouš in connection with the historic landscape of Netolicko and a cycling trip. Signage and stop information may change. Check both, as well as route conditions, before setting out.

The annual tractor gathering in Mahouš offers another reason to visit. Several dozen tractors, including historic models, other agricultural machinery and ploughing demonstrations are on display. Unlike the architectural styles, the gathering is tied to a specific event date. Check the current dates and programme before planning a visit.
