The shortest route to the summit of Boubín starts in Kubova Huť; other hiking trails also begin in the village. There is also a ski area and the Golden Trail Museum. When choosing a place to stay, you can weigh up whether hiking, winter sports or local history will be the main focus of your visit.
Hiking on Boubín
The “Around the Boubín Forest” hike begins in Kubova Huť on the blue-marked trail. It is 17.9 kilometres long and follows forest paths. The ascent to the lookout tower begins less than five kilometres from the car park. The 17.9-kilometre figure refers to this named route, not to the shortest trail to the summit.
On the ascent to Boubín, the trail passes old military bunkers and reaches Bázumské louky. There is a covered rest area there. The “Around the Boubín Forest” route also leads to Boubínský rybník, which formerly served as a water reservoir for a log-flume canal. Benches and tables by the lake provide a place to rest and take a break. The route then passes the Jilmová skála natural monument and follows the forest educational trail.
Another option is the “Keltská naučná stezka” (Celtic educational trail). It begins in Kubova Huť and runs via Boubín and Mařský vrch to Věnec. This gives you a choice of different destinations: the summit of Boubín, a route featuring a lake and a natural monument, or the educational trail all the way to Věnec.
Skiing in Kubova Huť
The ski area in Kubova Huť has four downhill runs: one red and three blue. The red Střecha run is 600 metres long. The area also offers artificial snowmaking and lighting for evening skiing.
The Golden Trail and local history
In the past, the Vimperk branch of the Golden Trail passed through Kubova Huť. The Golden Trail Museum opened to the public in early August 2024. It is dedicated to the history of the Golden Trail and also covers the history of glassmaking, forestry and nature conservation.
Exhibits include local objects, videos, informational texts and an artistic relief depicting the Golden Trail’s three branches. Alongside the history of the trade route, the museum also highlights other aspects of local and regional history. The museum has covered seating for visitors and a room suitable for concerts. Check the current opening arrangements before visiting.
Visiting the lookout tower
On 5 July 2025, the lookout tower on Boubín was closed following a decision by structural engineers. Before setting out, check whether the closure is still in effect and take it into account when choosing your destination.
