Drslavice combines a fortress in the village with two routes that pass directly through it. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Drslavice, you can first decide whether you would like to combine your stay with an arranged visit to the fortress, a hike or a bike ride. The fortress’s visiting arrangements and the different route profiles provide practical guidance.

Visit Drslavice Fortress

Drslavice Fortress is a Gothic-Renaissance building in Drslavice in the Prachatice District. It has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. Four distinct rectangular buildings are arranged around a small courtyard. Both its architectural style and its layout, with a courtyard and several buildings, shape the character of the complex.

The access arrangements are the key consideration when planning a visit: visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement with the owner. There are currently no fixed opening hours. Call ahead to arrange a time rather than planning around set opening hours. This is a separate planning consideration from deciding which route to include in your stay.

Hiking and cycling routes through the village

The “Krajem Mistra Jana Husa” cultural route passes directly through Drslavice. It is about 17 kilometres long and has a moderate difficulty level. For hike planning, you know both that it passes through the village and its approximate total distance. You can include the route as a hiking destination in your plans for your stay.

The “Na kole krajem Mistra Jana Husa a kardinála Vlka” cycling route also passes through Drslavice. It runs through Lažiště, Drslavice and Záblatí and is 49 kilometres long in total. Its physical difficulty level is moderate. The two routes therefore offer different ways of getting around: a hike of about 17 kilometres and a 49-kilometre bike ride. The “moderate” rating does not make them equivalent options, since the activity and total distance differ. Choose according to the kind of tour you have in mind, not solely on the basis of their shared difficulty rating.

Scenery and viewpoints

Other natural attractions offer different highlights. The Hus Castle ruins stand on a steep rocky promontory above the Blanice River, on the slope of the 835-metre-high Panský vrch. A blue-marked hiking trail of about two kilometres leads to the ruins from Křišťanovický rybník near Křišťanovice. The site’s striking location and a specific hiking route are key features of this destination.

The “Na soutoku” nature trail is 3.4 kilometres long and passes through a canyon-like stretch of the Blanice and the nature reserve of the same name. It offers a different kind of scenery from the route to the Hus Castle ruins, focusing on the river stretch and the protected area. Boubínský prales, in turn, is an old-growth fir-beech forest with some spruce. Visitors interested in forest composition will find a clearly defined natural feature here, rather than route length as the main attraction.

The LibĂn lookout tower offers another kind of visit: the stone tower is 27 metres high and has 138 steps. It is accessible year-round; details may change, so check visitor information before travelling. The options described are therefore quite different: a fortress visit by prior telephone arrangement, routes with specified lengths, a nature trail through a protected area, an old-growth forest and a lookout tower.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Drslavice, you can arrange your fortress visit in advance and then choose a tour based on whether you prefer hiking or cycling. This gives you two practical planning points: the routes that pass directly through the village and the need to arrange a time to visit the fortress.
