Komaji brings together a diverse cultural heritage with specific connections to cycling and outdoor activities. The Ranjina–Capor complex is located in the hamlet of Vignji; on the Donja Banda and Konavle Field cycling route, cyclists can stop at Crvik Winery after the turnoff towards Komaji. Architectural history, wine and outdoor activities each offer a different focus.

The Ranjina–Capor complex in Vignji

The Ranjina–Capor residential and agricultural complex in the hamlet of Vignji in Komaji is protected cultural heritage and bears the designation Z-4583. It dates back to the 16th or 17th century. The complex comprises a central single-storey building, a chapel dedicated to Saint John, agricultural outbuildings, a mill, terraces and gardens. The site can be understood as a combination of a central building, a religious space and agricultural buildings. The ensemble as a whole is therefore key to understanding its architecture.

Cycling and a stop at the winery

On the Donja Banda and Konavle Field cycling route, cyclists can stop at Crvik Winery after the turnoff towards Komaji and sample local wines. If you plan to include a tasting, check current visitor arrangements in advance. The Ćiro cycling trail offers a different historical connection to cycling: it follows the restored route of a former narrow-gauge railway that operated from 1901 to 1968. While wine tasting is the focus of a stop at Crvik, the former railway line provides the historical context for the Ćiro trail.

Cadmos Village: Activities and legends

Cadmos Village is located near Komaji in an oak forest in Konavle Field. The site is associated with action-packed outdoor activities. It is also home to a medieval stone cross linked to local legends about Cadmus and Harmonia. Cadmos Village offers treehouse accommodation, traditional dishes, cooking classes and active tourism. Here, outdoor activities and local legends meet culinary offerings and cooking classes—a focus that differs from the architectural character of the Ranjina–Capor complex.

On the seaward side, steep cliffs stretch from the port of Cavtat through Molunat to the Prevlaka peninsula and Cape Oštro.

Nearby, Fort Sokol is a significant fortress dating from the time of the Republic of Ragusa. It was built on the site of an earlier Illyrian and Roman fortification. When visibility is good, Fort Sokol and the churchyard of Our Lady of Sokol offer views across Konavle.

Compare regional trails and cultural sites

In Općina Konavle, the eight-kilometre Cavtat–Močići–Čilipi hiking trail runs through the coastal landscape. The Konavoske stijene educational trail starts in Popovići and follows the cliffs for about four kilometres. The route lengths make it possible to compare the scope of the two trails; check local trail conditions before setting out.

Further cultural attractions can be found at the Museum of the Konavle Region in Čilipi, which houses around 500 ethnographic objects, including traditional costumes, embroidery, jewellery and everyday items. The mill complex on the Ljuta River comprises eight watermills for flour, two watermills for oil and three fulling mills. The system of lower mills, built after 1550, has been preserved to this day. Together with the Ranjina–Capor complex, it offers insight into different aspects of architectural and everyday history in the wider destination of Općina Konavle.
