In Buín, you can plan a visit to Bioparque Buinzoo and cultural activities at Centro Cultural Maipo as separate highlights. At the zoo, wildlife, guided educational activities and Dino Parque come together; Centro Cultural Maipo offers workshops, exhibitions and cultural activities. When planning your zoo visit, the main things to consider are how long to spend there, the program and how to get there.

Zoo Visit: Time, Tours and Themes

For a visit to Bioparque Buinzoo, advance admission reservations are required, specifying the visit date and arrival time; tickets are not sold at the park. Check these requirements again before setting out.

A full walk around the park takes an average of three hours. If you want to see the entire park, allow at least four hours. The guided tours “Al sur del mundo: Animales de Chile” and “Scouts – La tropa recorre Bioparque Buinzoo” each last two hours. These time estimates answer different questions: the two hours refer to each individual tour, while the three or at least four hours are for general visit planning.

The two tours have different focuses. “Al sur del mundo: Animales de Chile” teaches children about Chile and its wildlife and raises their awareness of each person’s responsibility for nature conservation. “Scouts – La tropa recorre Bioparque Buinzoo” combines exploring the park with knowledge about nature conservation shared by guides.

Dino Parque features a safari with animatronic dinosaurs, an excavation zone and a water play area. In the animal enclosures, the focus is also on environmental enrichment and habitats: these promote the animals’ behaviors and recreate their natural habitats.

Educational visits for schools are designed at discounted rates. They can be either self-guided or guided and can be tailored to classroom topics. As reservations and conditions may change, schools should check the details before planning.

Getting to Buin Zoo

From San Borja bus terminal in Santiago, the “Buin–Maipo” and “Buin–Paine” routes go to a stop about 50 meters from the pedestrian entrance to Buin Zoo. Check route details before traveling. Another option is to take the train from Estación Central to “Buin Zoo” station; the journey takes about 45 minutes. From there, a pedestrian bridge leads to the zoo. The bus information refers to the distance from the stop to the entrance, while the train information refers to the train journey to the station. Check the current timetable separately.
