Pucón offers several distinct options for planning your day: a moderate walk through the center, routes along Playa Grande and La Poza, an urban cycling route, and museums featuring local history. You can link central stops on foot; tourist boat trips on Lago Villarrica also depart from the harbor. Whether you prefer walking, cycling, exploring the waterfront, or learning about history, each option offers a different focus.

Walking through the center

Plaza Parque in the center can be the starting point for a moderate walk. The route passes the Museo Padre Pancho and Playa Grande, then continues to La Poza and its waterfront promenade. The plaza is intended to highlight the municipality’s cultural identity and provides a green setting for families to stop and rest. This route therefore takes in a central square, a museum, the main beach, and the harbor area.

Waterfront, harbor, and protected wetland

Playa Grande is Pucón’s main beach, next to the town; a paved waterfront promenade runs alongside the water. Various tourist activities and water sports take place there in summer. La Poza serves a different purpose: as the main harbor and mooring area for motorboats and sailboats, it is the departure point for tourist boat trips on Lago Villarrica. At the same time, Chile’s Ministry of the Environment designated La Poza a protected urban wetland, making it an important urban conservation area in the municipality of Pucón.

Cycling route with notable stops

The urban cycling loop begins at Paseo La Poza, follows the Ruta Pucón–Villarrica to Cristo del Antumalal and a carved wooden cross near the municipal cemetery, then returns to Plaza Parque through the town center. By contrast, the moderate walk starts at Plaza Parque and passes the Museo Padre Pancho and Playa Grande on its way to La Poza. The two routes therefore have different sequences and stops: the walk links the museum and beach, while the cycling loop follows the named points along its circuit.

Bike rental providers in Pucón supply helmets, basic safety equipment, and tool kits; some also offer assistance along the way. If these services matter to your plans, check with the rental provider in advance, as offerings may change. Conditions on the route may also vary. Before setting out, check whether the route described suits your plans.

Two museums, different focuses

Casa Museo Padre Pancho focuses on biography. Casa del Padre Pancho features a photographic exhibition covering episodes from the priest’s life, along with some personal belongings that illustrate his life story. The museum is part of Ruta Patrimonial No. 61 of the Región de la Araucanía, “Padre Pancho. Misionero en la Araucanía,” and the Ruta Binacional de la Fe, which connects Chile with Argentina.

The Museo de la Pesca Recreativa is located in the Los Boldos sector on Playa Grande and highlights the heritage of the Sindicato de Boteros de Pucón. Exhibits include historical objects, photographs, and life-size replicas of emblematic species such as salmon and trout. A municipal report dated June 4, 2026, describes renovated premises featuring handicrafts with motifs inspired by flora and fauna, as well as historical photographs. The priest’s life story and the heritage of the Boteros thus represent distinct cultural themes.

Handicrafts in the center

You can also buy local handicrafts and the well-known wooden flowers on the streets in the center. This can be combined with a walk and adds a look at local craftsmanship to visits to the squares, waterfront, and museums.
