Macuco brings together folklore traditions, rural excursions, and festivals. When planning, it helps to choose between these main interests: would you like to experience cultural events, or include agricultural and nature-based activities? Several of the experiences described are tied to specific festival editions or visitor routes. If you want a particular festival to determine your travel dates, check its current dates and program in advance.

Folklore and Festivals in Macuco

The Festival de Folias de Reis de Macuco is considered intangible cultural heritage of the municipality and an important folkloric tradition in the region. Its 49th edition was held as a livestream because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The Festa de São João Batista is also a traditional event: dedicated to Macuco’s patron saint, it attracts residents and tourists.

At the 2026 edition of the Festa de São João Batista, the Encantos de Macuco exhibition was shown in the bandstand at Praça Professor João Brasil. Its collections and images focused on the municipality’s history. This gave the festival another cultural point of reference: alongside the folklore tradition, local history was also a focus.

Rural Excursions and Routes

The Trilha de São João Batista is about 50 kilometers long. The Parque de Exposições Edgar Rodrigues Luterbach, also known as Macuco Rural Park, serves as its meeting point and start and finish point. The Trilha is also a traditional event; its 15th edition drew hundreds of motorcyclists from different parts of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The route length and shared starting point make this experience different from visits to individual farms.

Macuco’s rural tourism includes a historical tour of centuries-old farms, as well as agricultural and artisanal production. Fazenda Val de Palmas is also part of the rural tourism route. Other options include hiking, horseback riding, and cycling excursions among the agricultural and nature-based activities. The project also envisions families hosting tourists.

A Roteiro de Visitação in Macuco included visits to producers of sweets, cheese, and artisanal cachaça, as well as lunch at Fazenda do Ribeirão Dourado. This makes the route different from a tour focused solely on historic farms: it also includes local production and a meal together. If you want to take part in a particular route or visit a farm, confirm the visiting arrangements for your dates in advance.

At the 18th Cavalgada de Macuco, the route passed through rural and urban areas of the municipality and offered views of Macuco’s natural landscape. This combination of town areas and scenery makes the Cavalgada different from the farm and production tours described above. Since this information relates to a specific edition, check current dates if you want to plan your trip around the event.

Expo-Macuco: Crafts, Food, and Activities for Children

Expo-Macuco included a craft and food fair where visitors could browse local handicrafts and try typical dishes. The 2025 edition also featured Fazendinha Kids, where children could learn about farm animals and spend time with them. An amusement park offered free rides for children. These activities combine a market visit with things to do for younger visitors, but they were part of a specific edition of the Expo. If they are important to your trip, check the program for the event you plan to attend.

When choosing accommodation, it may therefore help to first decide on the purpose of your trip: a festival visit depends on the event dates, while tours of farms and producers require their own visiting arrangements. This makes it easier to search for a hotel in Macuco that fits the experiences you actually want to include in your stay.
