In Uruçuí, the Parnaíba and the annual ExpoSoja offer different reasons to visit. The riverbanks and local festivals also shape what the area has to offer.

River city on the Hidrovia do Parnaíba

At PK 883, Uruçuí is connected to the Hidrovia do Parnaíba as a river city. The Parnaíba is navigated between Uruçuí and Santa Filomena in its free-flowing, natural state. At PK 883, a crossing of the Rio Parnaíba connects Benedito Leite in Maranhão with Uruçuí in Piauí. This gives you two distinct ways to understand the area’s relationship with water: Uruçuí’s location on the Hidrovia and the specific crossing between the two cities.

The Rio Uruçuí Preto is also among the local attractions for leisure and tourism. Together with the Parnaíba, it gives the area a profile where a waterway connection and a distinct riverside leisure offering sit side by side.

Riverbanks in the dry season

During the dry season, from July to October, Uruçuí’s riverbanks become river beaches with food stalls and leisure activities. They offer opportunities for relaxation and tourism. If you’re looking for this seasonal highlight, you can use July to October as a guide when planning your trip.

ExpoSoja and the festival calendar

The annual ExpoSoja in Uruçuí brings exhibitors together and offers business opportunities. It also features musical performances and a renowned regional barbecue. Business connections, music and regional cuisine are all part of the same event. If you want to plan your trip around ExpoSoja, check the event date for the relevant year before making your plans.

Local festivals also provide occasions to visit at particular times of year. A description published in 2025 gives the dates of 15 to 24 June for the traditional Festejos de São João Batista in the rural community of Malícias. The 2025 programme for the Festejos de São Pedro in the community of Sangue included a football tournament and a traditional horse race on 28 June. For future trips, check local festival dates in advance. The examples also differ in their timing: the São João Batista celebration is described as lasting several days, while the São Pedro information describes a single festival day featuring sporting competitions.
