Teixeira combines birdwatching and natural attractions with a local history that can be experienced through its buildings, monuments and historic sites. It also hosts cultural events with a range of different themes. When choosing the focus of your stay, you can decide whether you would like to make nature activities, history or festival culture the centrepiece.

Birdwatching and natural attractions

The “Passarinhando no Jabre” project takes place in Teixeira’s Parque Nacional Serra do Teixeira. It uses birdwatching to raise awareness of biodiversity in Paraíba. The project includes interpretive trails and guided activities for visitors, educators, guides and local communities. If you would like to plan a specific guided activity, it is advisable to check in advance what is currently available.

Pedra do Tendó is about three kilometres from Teixeira and is part of an ecological protected area established on 16 October 1992. A crystalline rock formation, it is 800 metres high and covers an area of 2,000 square metres.

Poço da Besta waterfall is one of the natural and mountain attractions associated with Serra de Teixeira. Pedra do Oito in Teixeira offers a different kind of experience: it is a meeting place for young people and children, and the climb to its summit is considered accessible. If you are planning a climb, it is advisable to check the current conditions beforehand.

History in buildings and places

Cacimba da Baixa is considered the place where the settlement that became the city began, under its former name, Canudos. Historic buildings include the Igreja Matriz de Santa Maria Madalena. Built in 1817, it is considered a very well-preserved 19th-century building.

The Sobrado is a mansion on Rua Dario Ramalho. It was built in the early 20th century and was the residence of Colonel Cazuzinha. The Monumento ao Coração de Jesus was built by Padre Serrão in preparation for the parish congress and inaugurated on 27 October 1944. The Museu Agar Nunes Guedes, which opened in 2007 in honour of a local poet, adds another stop to this selection. The dates refer to different events: construction, former use, inauguration and museum opening.

Festivals and cultural expressions

The traditional Semana de Arte e Cultura celebrates local artists and cultural expressions. Its 20th edition took place from 27 to 31 August 2025. Another example is Cantoria na Praça at Cantinho do Forró: in June 2026, artists, poets and violeiros gathered there. The programme included a viola recital as well as exhibitions of books and handicrafts.

The traditional São João festival “Forró na Praça” takes place in Teixeira’s central square. The square is popular for its greenery. The events offer different cultural experiences; if you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates for your intended visit.
