Pedra do Ingá is an archaeological site in the municipality of Ingá in the state of Paraiba. It is also known as the Itacoatiara do Rio Ingá archaeological site, is protected by Iphan, and was designated a heritage site in 1944. Its location, name and protected status give this part of the trip a clear cultural and historical point of reference.

Archaeology and cultural connections

Another way to explore the region’s history is through the Museu do Brejo Paraibano, widely known as the Museu da Rapadura. It is located in the municipality of Areia, in the Brejo Paraibano region, and preserves historical ties to rural sugarcane culture and the production of traditional sugarcane products. Alongside the archaeological site near Ingá, this museum offers a focus connected to agricultural culture and artisanal production.

In Pitimbu, the Quinzena Cultural brings folkloric and regional groups to the stage. The event takes place on the second Saturday of every month; handicrafts are displayed and sold at stalls. If you would like to plan your visit around this program, check the date in advance.

Parque Estadual da Pedra da Boca also brings together different themes: it is an ecological conservation area and an important site of geological heritage. The park offers opportunities for contemplative, ecological, adventure and religious tourism. The Santuário de Nossa Senhora de Fátima is located in the Pedra do Letreiro area. Traditional Masses are held there on the thirteenth day of each month.

Forest trails, mangroves and coastal landscapes

Nature experiences vary in terms of landscape and activity. Guided hikes beneath centuries-old tree canopies are offered in Mata do Buraquinho. In the Área de Proteção Ambiental da Barra de Mamanguape, boat trips pass through mangroves, where you can observe manatees. These offer two distinct options: hiking and boat trips through a mangrove area.

For hikes, the Área de Preservação Ambiental de Tambaba also includes forests, cliffs, viewpoints and beaches in its recommended itinerary. There is also a culinary connection: visitors can experience Northeastern cuisine at farms. Check in advance whether participation is possible. In Território Mucuxi in Conde, environmental education and hiking trails through the Atlantic Forest are part of what is on offer. The Indigenous protected area also offers kayaking and opportunities to swim in the river, at a spring and in the mud.

The Trilha Mata do Pau Ferro in Areia has a specific length: it is 700 meters long and offers a chance to connect with the local flora and fauna. Check trail conditions before your visit. On the coast, Praia do Jacaré in Cabedelo, near João Pessoa, is a good place to watch the sunset. Paraiba is described as a coastal destination with warm water, peaceful activities and eco-tourism excursions suitable for families.

Getting there and planning

To get to Paraiba, consider João Pessoa Airport (JPA) or Campina Grande Airport (CPV). João Pessoa is connected to neighboring states and coastal beaches by the BR-101 and BR-230 highways. Check flight connections and routes before your trip. When choosing accommodation, you can first decide whether you want to focus your stay mainly on culture, nature or coastal experiences; the places and activities mentioned offer different starting points for each.
