Pitimbu combines beach walks and opportunities to enjoy nature with religious festivals, music, and culinary events. The beach is in the city center; however, you’ll need to plan a boat trip to go diving at the natural pools by Farol de Pitimbu.
Beach and Accommodation in Pitimbu
Praia de Pitimbu is in the city center and is ideal for walking and enjoying nature. There are pousadas, bars, and restaurants along its waterfront promenade.
The natural pools by Farol de Pitimbu offer another way to enjoy a stay by the water: the area is suitable for diving, but access requires a boat trip. Check local sea conditions before setting out. This outing can be planned differently from a walk along Praia de Pitimbu, which is in the city center.
Cultural Traditions and Music
The Jangada de duas velas is found only in Pitimbu; the city is considered the only place in Brazil where this type of jangada can be found. It is part of Pitimbu’s intangible cultural heritage. Another local tradition is the Aruenda da Saudade. It takes the form of a procession, with music played on instruments including alfaias, agbé, agogô, and caixa.
Older residents say that the Aruenda has existed in Pitimbu for at least two centuries. The documented revival of the tradition dates to 2006. The Aruenda is therefore notable both for the specific form of its performance and for its history as passed down: its long history is based on the accounts of older residents, while 2006 marks its revival.
Festivals and Culinary Connections
The Festa do Senhor do Bonfim brings together faith, culture, and musical performances. It is regarded as a symbol of Pitimbu’s cultural and religious identity and attracts visitors every year from various cities in ParaĂba as well as neighboring states. Attendance and the program may vary. The 2026 festival was announced for January 29–31. If you’re planning to attend a later edition, check its dates rather than assuming it will take place during the 2026 period.
The Festival Gastronômico e Cultural da Lagosta de Pitimbu also has a specific historical reference: in 2025, it held its third edition. At the festival’s opening, the “Veja Pitimbu” food fair offered lobster-focused dishes prepared by restaurants and chefs from the region. In the municipality of Pitimbu, the Marisqueiras de Acaú combine handicrafts with seafood-based cuisine. While the fair featured lobster dishes at its opening, the Marisqueiras bring together handicrafts and regional seafood cuisine.
Excursions in the Municipality
In the municipality of Pitimbu, Vila Histórica de Taquara preserves colonial heritage. A walking tour takes you past the Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, and the ruins of a third church. Taquara therefore offers a distinct focus on history and churches, while walks and opportunities to enjoy nature are the main attractions at Praia de Pitimbu.
Also in the municipality, JK Travessias offers a sunset river trip through the estuary of the Rio Goiana, departing from Acaú and Pontinha and led by Josy Calixto. You can choose based on the kind of excursion you’re looking for: Taquara focuses on colonial heritage and churches, while the river trip centers on a sunset journey through the estuary.
