Capim, in the state of Paraíba, offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: Paróquia São Sebastião and the Rota Caminhos do Rio Mamanguape. The parish’s main church is in the city center; at the same time, Capim is part of a long-distance trail stretching more than 190 kilometers. Religious events sit alongside the route’s cultural and environmental themes. You can first consider whether you are more interested in religious tradition, local handicrafts, or the initiatives visitors can discover in Capim.

Paróquia São Sebastião and religious tradition

Paróquia São Sebastião was canonically established in Capim on January 20, 2025. An archdiocesan program for 2026 also lists the parish in connection with Capim. The main church is in the city center at Avenida São Sebastião 31; check the address locally before your trip. São Sebastião is the patron saint of the parish dedicated to him, which offers a place for prayer and community.

The celebration in honor of Capim’s patron saint is part of the Archdiocese of Paraíba’s traditional Festa de São Sebastião. The 2026 program lists a Mass at 9 a.m. A 2023 description gives February 10 as the date of the celebrations and lists fairs, novenas, processions, and shows. If you are planning to attend a celebration, check the dates in advance.

Handicrafts and the Rota Caminhos do Rio Mamanguape

Local handicrafts were featured at the 1ª Feira Cultural, held as part of the 1º Festival Cultural da Lei Aldir Blanc II. A report dated May 17, 2025, highlights this cultural connection for Capim. This dated handicraft event offers a different glimpse of cultural life than the religious events.

Capim is part of the Rota Caminhos do Rio Mamanguape, a long-distance trail stretching more than 190 kilometers. Along the route, visitors in Capim can discover sustainability and environmental protection initiatives, as well as expressions of Potiguara culture. Hiking is therefore not the only theme: in Capim, environmental and cultural topics are also among the ways to experience the route. This differs from the specific events held for the São Sebastião celebration.

Paraíba as part of a wider travel itinerary

Elsewhere in the wider destination of Paraíba, other places also offer cultural points of interest. In the municipality of Ingá is Pedra do Ingá, also known as Itacoatiara do Rio Ingá. The archaeological site, protected by Iphan, was listed as a heritage site in 1944. In Areia, Museu do Brejo Paraibano, widely known as Museu da Rapadura, preserves historical connections to rural sugarcane culture and the production of traditional sugarcane products. The state thus brings archaeological heritage and sugarcane history together as distinct cultural themes.

To travel to Paraíba, you can fly into João Pessoa Airport (JPA) or Campina Grande Airport (CPV). João Pessoa is connected to neighboring states and coastal beaches via the BR-101 and BR-230 highways. Check flight and route availability before traveling.
