Itacaré’s city beaches are close to the center and easy to reach. Praia do Pontal offers a clear contrast: it lies on the other side of the Rio de Contas and is accessible only by boat. This distinction is useful when finding your way along the coast. The activities also vary from beach to beach: swimming and paddling are possible at Praia da Concha, while Praia da Tiririca is known for its strong waves and surfing. Natural pools, waterfront promenades and trails round out the picture. When choosing where to go, you can distinguish between easily accessible city beaches and a stretch of shore that can only be reached by boat.

Beaches and activities

At Praia da Concha, you can swim, stand-up paddleboard, kayak and paddle an outrigger canoe. This combination brings swimming together with three different types of paddling. If you want to choose beach days based on specific water activities, this stretch offers several options in one place. This sets Praia da Concha apart from beaches known for other features.

Fishermen share the waterfront promenade at Praia da Coroinha with people playing footvolley, soccer and volleyball or doing functional training. The promenade is also used for walks and to watch the sunset. Sports and strolls are therefore equally part of the activities described here by the water.

Praia da Tiririca has strong, consistent waves suitable for surfing. Surf championships are also held at this beach. At low tide, natural pools form at Praia do Resende; the beach is also used for yoga, meditation and outdoor sports. The reference to the tides has a practical bearing on when the pools form: if you want to see them, plan your visit for low tide.

Nature and trails

At Praia da Ribeira, a stream flows into the sea, forming a natural pool. There is also a treetop adventure course and a zip line, and trails lead from here to other beaches. Praia da Costa is reached by a short trail and is surrounded by vegetation and low hills. Beyond the individual beaches, trails and waterfalls, much of Itacaré lies in areas of the Atlantic Rainforest region. Both the specific landscape features of individual places and the rainforest region contribute to the destination’s natural character.

Historic center

Itacaré’s cultural side is reflected in its historic center, which preserves colonial heritage and Afro-Brazilian culture. One notable building is Igreja São Miguel Arcanjo: it was founded by Jesuits in 1723 and preserves elements from the colonial era. If you don’t want to plan your stay around coastal activities alone, you can consider the historic center as a cultural focus in its own right.

Rafting in the municipality of Itacaré

Rafting on the Rio de Contas offers a different kind of activity. It starts in Taboquinhas, in the municipality of Itacaré, making it an activity within the municipality. The route is about 3 km long and passes through five main rapids: Carrossel, Fumo, Funil, Corredor Polonês and Salto da Pancada. The stated difficulty grades are III to IV. The starting point, route length, names of the main rapids and difficulty grades give you specific reference points for distinguishing the river activity from the beach activities.
