At the center of Odžak stands the Beledija, also known as Mala vijećnica: a building in the pseudo-Moorish style, completed in 1903 and listed as a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The restored Beledija was reopened with a ceremonial opening. The building provides a tangible architectural reference point for the town’s history.

Cultural heritage and history

The history of the Beledija also includes the opening of a permanent exhibition featuring wooden replicas of prehistoric vessels. The replicas are based on examples of pottery from the Kostolac culture, found at the Copper Age settlement of Pivnica in Potočani. Pivnica is considered one of the most important Chalcolithic sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The parish church also offers a point of comparison across time: the first parish church in Odžak was completed in 1908, while the present parish church was built from 1997 to 1999. Its towers feature four large stained-glass windows depicting the meeting of Mary and Elizabeth, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, Blessed Alojzije Stepinac and the Servant of God John Paul II. The Gradska džamija is located in the heart of the Čaršija district. Its architectural features include a slender minaret and harmonious design. Folklore, events and local products

Posavsko kolo is a traditional folklore event in Odžak; its central event includes a folklore showcase. Folklore groups parade through the town streets, presenting traditional costumes, songs and dances in the pedestrian zone. Musini Dani is another cultural and theatrical event, organized in March. It is held in honor of the poet Musa Ćazim Ćatić, who was born in Odžak. Posavsko ljeto, in turn, is an annual cultural event held in Odžak and organized by the Odžak Cultural Center. The March timing of Musini Dani and the annual staging of Posavsko ljeto provide two distinct dates to note for cultural events.

Mali sajam takes place on Odžak’s town promenade and has been held there for the fourth consecutive year. It focuses on local, indigenous products, delicacies and handicrafts from small producers, individuals and associations. The events thus bring folklore and stage performances together with a market offering local produce and crafts.

Landscape and outdoor activities

The protected landscape of Starača covers 424.4 hectares in the municipality of Odžak. Its designation as a protected area was approved in June 2024. Starača is one of two protected landscape areas designated for their exceptional importance to biodiversity. In addition, the Lovište Odžak hunting ground extends across the entire municipality and is designated as a lowland hunting ground. The Sava is an important fishing area associated with Odžak.

For sports-related activities, the municipal sports and recreation center includes a football stadium with an auxiliary field, as well as sports courts for small-sided football or handball, basketball and volleyball. A sports hall and an Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool are located on adjacent plots. If you would like to include these facilities in your plans, check their current operating conditions in advance.
