Drvar brings together memorial history with nature and culture. When planning your stay, you can consider whether to focus on memorial sites, a spring landscape or medieval structures. The specific places to visit differ both in their themes and in the dates given for individual offerings.
Memorial Sites in Drvar
The “25 May” Museum Cultural Landscape Memorial Complex in Drvar is listed as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This monument comprises the main building of the “25 May” Museum and Tito’s Villa. The museum and villa are therefore parts of the same memorial complex. This connection is a key focus for a visit centered on cultural history: the national monument comprises several named components, not just the museum building.
Tito’s Cave reopened to visitors on May 25, 2006. This is a historical reopening date, not a statement about current access. Check current access arrangements before your trip.
The Bastašica Spring
The Bastašica Spring is in the village of Bastasi, about five kilometers from Drvar. It is surrounded by high, vertical rock faces; near its source, the Bastašica forms several waterfalls. There is a marked trail in the spring area, with benches, safety railings and a wooden bridge. This makes it possible to take in both the natural features and the trail: rock faces and waterfalls define the spring landscape, while the markings, railings, bridge and benches characterize the path. If you are planning an excursion, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the spring and its rocky landscape or also include the marked trail.
Fortress and River Gorge at Visuć Grad
A visitor offering described for 2024 in the area around Visuć Grad included the gorge of the Visućica River, the medieval Visuć Grad Fortress and a reconstructed medieval church. Visuć Grad is a medieval fortress in Šipovljani, within the municipality of Drvar. This means that the visitor area brings landscape and architectural history together as distinct aspects: the river gorge and two medieval structures. Check local access arrangements before travelling.
Drvar Cornelian Cherry Days
The 24th edition of “Drvar Cornelian Cherry Days” took place in 2025 at the “25 May” Memorial Complex below Tito’s Cave in Drvar. Visitors could watch cornelian cherry brandy being made, sample specialties and buy authentic regional products. The event thus offered different ways to engage with the products: by watching, tasting and buying. This information refers to the 2025 edition. If the festival date is important for your trip, check the dates before making plans.
The years serve different purposes: 2006 marks the cave’s historical reopening, 2024 the visitor offering described for the Visuć Grad area, and 2025 the specific festival edition. For a later stay, current access information is therefore important, as are the dates of the relevant edition if you plan to attend the festival.
