There are several ways to shape a stay in Bischoffeld: local history, outdoor activities, and culture. The destinations vary in how much time they require and in their seasonal conditions. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your trip around your interests and the time available.

A historical starting point

Bischoffeld was first mentioned in 860 as a Gaal place name in a deed of donation. At that time, it was still a single estate belonging to the Bishop of Salzburg. The year therefore marks the name’s first mention; the estate describes the situation at the time. This early local history offers a distinctive way to discover Bischoffeld, alongside the nature and culture themes you can plan into a stay.

Landscape and time for hiking

The entire upper Ingering Valley and parts of Gaal lie within a landscape conservation area. The protected area varies in extent: it covers the whole upper Ingering Valley, while only parts of Gaal are included. A striking feature of the landscape, Lake Ingeringsee lies at an altitude of 1,200 metres and is surrounded by the Seckau Alps.

Allow about 45 minutes to walk around the lake. Lake Ingeringsee is also a starting point for longer hikes in the Seckau Alps. This gives you two distinct options: a walk around the lake with a defined time commitment, or longer hikes. The lake is accessible by car: the road is paved at first; a gravel road begins shortly before the lake, and you can follow it to the car park. Access is seasonal, and the road is closed in winter. Check access conditions before setting out.

Cycling and other activities

The cycling loop “Nimm´s Radl 05 – Seckau-Gaal-Runde” follows the Ingering to “Bischoffeld” in Gaal. If you would like to include cycling in your trip, this gives you a named route with a specific destination. A free map with hiking and leisure ideas for Gaal is also available. You can get one from the visitor information office at the municipal office, at any inn, or at a snack station; check availability before your trip.

The BSC Gaal hunting, field and 3D course is five kilometres long and open year-round, with 24 targets and around 20 3D targets. The number of 3D targets is approximate. As local operating conditions can change, it is advisable to check current information before visiting.

Cultural destinations and seasonal planning

The VW Beetle Museum features various exhibits and a simulator. The collection includes original vehicles, carefully restored examples, and rare models. Access may be seasonal, so plan your visit with the relevant access arrangements in mind.

The Maria Loretto alpine chapel stands at an altitude of 1,850 metres. In summer, it is very easy to reach on foot from the car park. A recurring event is the traditional brass ensemble gathering, held at the chapel on the fourth Sunday in August. If you are planning your trip around this event, check the date for the current year.

History, landscape, cycling, and culture offer different ways to shape your stay. When planning, compare the time you have in mind with the seasonal conditions at each destination.
