Villa Larca lies at the foot of the Sierras de los Comechingones. Mountain trails, waterfalls and Reserva Aguas Buenas give a stay a clear focus on the outdoors. When choosing your accommodation, it is worth first deciding which excursions matter most to you: Would you like to focus on trails of varying difficulty, swimming spots or viewpoints? Reserva Aguas Buenas, Chorro de San Ignacio and Piedra de Luz each offer different landscapes and trail experiences. Villa Larca’s adventure activities also include hiking on mountain trails, horseback riding, cycling, 4×4 excursions and climbs in the surrounding mountains.

Water, Trails and Mining at Reserva Aguas Buenas

Reserva Aguas Buenas brings together landscapes shaped by rock and water. Natural pools, waterfalls and rock formations with swimming spots are joined by easily accessible trails. Those who prefer to hike or trek will find routes of varying difficulty that link waterfalls and viewpoints. When choosing a trail, you can therefore consider both the stated level of difficulty and the character of the destination. Swimming conditions depend on the season and weather; also check access conditions before your visit.

Another feature of the reserve is its visible tunnels and abandoned quarries, remnants of earlier mining activity. They form part of the area’s natural and historical heritage. A visit is not limited to pools and hiking trails: the traces left by mining also shape the place.

Chorro de San Ignacio and Trails Along the Stream

Chorro de San Ignacio lies between Papagayos and Villa Larca. The 25-meter-high waterfall is located on a river course that rises between the Sierras de los Comechingones. From Villa Larca, travel three kilometers south on Provincial Route 1. At the end of the paved section, a 500-meter footpath continues along the stream toward the Sierras. This distinction is important for planning: the last 500 meters are a footpath, not another paved section.

At Chorro de San Ignacio, there is a municipal tourist complex with camping areas, parking, quinchos, an Olympic-size swimming pool and a swimming area in the stream. As the facilities in operation may change, check in advance what will be available during your visit.

Along the stream, Laguna Milagrosa is 400 meters upstream from Chorro de San Ignacio and can be reached via the stream. A further 200 meters along the footpath is Laguna del Deseo. These distances help you distinguish the two lagoons and the waterfall by their location.

Viewpoints and Special Places

At Piedra de Luz, a circular trail leads to viewpoints overlooking Quebrada del Tala and the broad Valle de Concarán. Piedra de Luz is a rock formation on the mountainside that appears to be balanced. Both the formation itself and the views of the named landscapes are highlights here.

Cueva del Indio is a natural cave in a large rock. What are believed to be the remains of a member of the Indigenous Comechingones people were found there. This cautious wording is important: the remains are only tentatively attributed to this community. Along with the visible mining remnants at Reserva Aguas Buenas, the cave offers a different way to explore the area’s history than the waterfalls and viewpoints do.
