Renca brings together religious tradition, historic sites and a seasonal riverside swimming area. The Iglesia de Nuestro Señor de Renca, Plaza Granaderos Puntanos and Casa Histórica each tell a different part of the town’s history. On the banks of the Río Conlara, the Balneario Municipal offers a different focus. These themes can help you decide what you would like to make the focus of your stay in Renca.

Church, Plaza and Historic House

The Iglesia de Nuestro Señor de Renca was built in 1732 by Jesuits from Chile. The Casa Histórica “Gobernador Santos Ortiz” stands opposite Plaza Granaderos Puntanos. The historic building was converted into the Casa Provincial de Gobernadores. Historical objects belonging to José Santos Ortiz and other local governors are displayed there.

Plaza Granaderos Puntanos is in the center of Renca and honors the Granaderos who took part in the independence struggles. Carved wooden benches bear the names of the Granaderos Puntanos, and a large fountain is another prominent feature of the square. It is intended as a gathering place and a place to relax. In this way, remembrance of the independence struggles sits alongside the square’s everyday use. The house opposite adds its own historical connection to this public space.

Pilgrimage and Festive Days

The Fiesta de Renca takes place every year on May 3. Pilgrims from different parts of Argentina venerate the Cristo de Espino and visit the church. The celebration of the Cristo de Renca includes horseback rides, singers and dances. The traditional procession in honor of the Cristo de Renca passes along the four streets surrounding the central square. At the Festividad del Divino Señor de Renca, stalls offer crafts, religious images, rosaries, traditional foods and souvenirs.

These celebrations give a visit a religious and cultural focus that differs from a stay centered on the Plaza or the river. If a specific festival date matters for your trip, check the latest event information in advance.

The Balneario on the Río Conlara

The Balneario Municipal de Renca is on the banks of the Río Conlara. During the 2026 summer season, its facilities include river access, a swimming pool, restrooms, barbecue areas and a sales point. This seasonal offering differs from the town’s historical and religious attractions. Check the current status of the facilities before visiting.

More Nature Destinations in the Broader Chacabuco Department Destination

The Quebrada de Villa Elena Nature Reserve is in Cortaderas, within the broader Chacabuco Department destination. It follows the Arroyo Cortaderas through reddish granite formations. The reserve is home to Chorro Grande, also called Cascada de los Cóndores: a waterfall more than 50 meters high. The reserve’s mountain ecosystem offers opportunities for birdwatching, photography and nature tourism.

Cascada Esmeralda, also called Chorro Chico, is also in Cortaderas. Its drop is approximately nine meters high. A walking route of about 90 minutes, with a low-to-moderate difficulty level, follows the Arroyo Cortaderas, also known as Villa Elena; trail conditions may vary by season. Another regional contrast: Dique Boca del Rio serves tourist purposes and offers opportunities for water sports and walks. Its access road is paved, signposted and lit.
