In Herradura, a lagoon with named river tributaries, a fine-sand beach, and recurring festivals come together. This gives you different ways to explore the town: its waterways, relaxation by the shore, or events that celebrate fishing and local culture.

Lagoon, Beach, and Outdoor Stays

The Laguna Herradura receives the Salado and Coltapick rivers and, in turn, drains into the RĂo Paraguay. The lagoon is therefore at the heart of a clearly defined waterscape. On its shore lies the Playa de Herradura, with fine-sand beaches where you can relax, swim, and enjoy the sun. Seasonal conditions may affect what you can do there.

The Complejo del TimbĂł is another option for spending time outdoors. It is a campground in Herradura that offers a chance to relax in a natural setting. The camping area includes a quincho, barbecue grills, tables, and benches. This offers a different experience from a beach outing: camping and these facilities are the focus here, while the Playa is associated with the lagoon shore and swimming.

Boat Trips and Fishing

For water trips in Herradura, you board a boat at the landing. Sport fishing for river corvina, tiger surubĂ, pacĂş, and manguruyĂş is offered on these trips. If you are planning a specific trip, check availability in advance; local conditions and regulations may vary.

A distinct link between boating and fishing is found at the Fiesta Nacional de la Corvina de RĂo, which includes a boat-based fishing competition. Depending on river conditions and event rules, participants row or use a motor. This competition format is therefore not the same as the water trips mentioned above. The Fiesta takes place every summer in Herradura and draws anglers from the region and across the country. Dates and programs vary from one edition to the next.

Festivals, Murals, and Local Products

The Fiesta del Pastelito Herradureño is also held annually in Herradura. It celebrates a handcrafted pastelito, which is highlighted and promoted as a tourist and cultural symbol of the region. If you are interested in local festivals, it is worth checking the dates for each edition.

Murals by local artists are also part of Herradura’s character and have become part of its identity. The Mercado Comunitario de Emprendedores promotes the sale of local products. Market layouts and participating vendors may change, so base any specific expectations about what is available on current conditions.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Herradura lies 41 kilometers south of the city of Formosa. You can get there via Ruta Nacional No. 11, which connects to Ruta Provincial No. 1; the route passes through Tatané on the way to Herradura. Use these place and road names when planning your trip, and check the current route before setting out.

Within the Wider LaishĂ Destination

The wider Laishí destination also offers cultural and natural attractions distinct from Herradura’s lagoon and festivals. In San Francisco de Laishí, the Misión San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1901 by Father Pedro Iturralde as a Franciscan mission on the banks of the Riacho Salado. The Museo Histórico „San Francisco de Laishí“ preserves objects and records relating to the history of the mission and the province.

In Villa Escolar, the RĂo Bermejo draws visitors for fishing and for views of its riverbanks and the surrounding natural landscape. The Museo Provincial de Ciencias Naturales there opened on September 8, 2013. It houses a paleontological collection and displays examples of present-day flora and fauna. These stops broaden the range of things to see in the LaishĂ destination, but they are not features of Herradura itself.
