Corrientes offers a range of highlights for a stay: the riverfront and seasonal bathing areas, boat trips, historic churches and buildings, and music and cultural events. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between these options based on their specific conditions. Swimming is available during a set period, the Circuito HistĂłrico Religioso has an approximate duration, and two festivals take place in January.

Riverfront and seasonal swimming

The Costanera Gral. San Martín runs for 2,500 meters along the riverfront in Corrientes. In 2008, the Costanera Juan Pablo II added 900 meters to the riverfront promenade. These two lengths give the named sections a tangible sense of scale. At Corrientes’ beaches, designated bathing areas are open for seven months, from October through the end of April. Recreational, sports, music and dance activities take place there. If swimming is part of your travel plans, this period is a specific seasonal reference point; the activities listed also show that a beach visit can involve more than swimming.

Experience Corrientes from the water

On the Paseo por El Río, you can travel along the Paraná and view Corrientes and its different architectural styles from the water. The paseo also includes hourly kayak rentals at Arazaty Beach. This offers two distinct experiences on the water: the boat trip focuses on views of the city and its architecture, while the kayak rental is priced by the hour. You can choose based on what appeals to you most: seeing the city from the water or kayaking.

Churches, architectural history and city identity

The Circuito HistĂłrico Religioso includes the seven churches of greatest historical importance in Corrientes. It takes approximately two hours, with a 15-minute stop at each church. Together, these two time estimates provide a specific but approximate framework for planning. The route focuses on the sequence of churches.

One historic building is Casa Martínez, which houses the Museo Arqueológico y Antropológico. The house was built on October 11, 1782, at Fray José de la Quintana 901, and is considered the oldest civil building in the city. In 1991, the city of Corrientes received the designation “Corrientes, Ciudad de los Murales.” Religious buildings, a historic civil building and this cultural designation highlight different aspects of the city’s history.

Cultural venues and January festivals

The Centro de Interpretación Casa Iberá is located in the historic Casa Ferro on the Corrientes waterfront. It invites locals and visitors to discover the natural, cultural and historical richness of the province through educational, recreational and interactive experiences. Here, the focus explicitly extends beyond the city to the province of Corrientes.

January is also a notable time for music and festivals. In the capital, at Parque Camba Cuá, the traditional Fiesta de San Baltasar takes place on January 6, featuring Candombe and Charanda. The Fiesta Nacional del Chamamé is also celebrated every January in the city of Corrientes. The distinction matters when planning around the calendar: for San Baltasar, January 6 and the park are specified; for Chamamé, January is the recurring timeframe. Check the exact event dates and program for the relevant year before your trip.
