San Isidro offers several distinct points of interest for a trip: its historic center, neo-Gothic architecture, a traditional craft fair and a cycling route. Mitre Square is the heart of the historic center and sits on two levels above a natural ravine. If you’re looking for a hotel in San Isidro, you can plan your stay around the attractions and their visiting hours.
Historic Center and Architecture
A traditional craft fair is held at Mitre Square on weekends. The square is also colloquially known as “de San Isidro.” This brings together the heart of the historic center and a regular weekend attraction.
The Cathedral of San Isidro is a neo-Gothic temple built in 1898. Another historic landmark is Quinta “Los Ombúes” in the city of San Isidro, in the Province of Buenos Aires. It is designated a National Historic Monument. The San Isidro Racecourse opened in 1935 and covers 148 hectares.
Visits and Regular Events
The cathedral is open to visitors daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except during Mass; admission is free. As opening hours may change, check the details before your visit. To arrange a guided tour of the cathedral, you can contact the San Isidro Tourist Guide Center.
A free guided tour of the traditional historic center is offered at 4 p.m. on the second Sunday of every month. Confirm the date before your trip. For planning purposes, it’s helpful to note the difference: the historic center tour takes place on a set monthly date, while you can inquire about a cathedral tour through the Tourist Guide Center.
Cycling Route and Regional Orientation
The Bicisenda del Tren de la Costa runs from Estación Anchorena to Estación San Isidro “R.” The latter is at the intersection of Avenida Tiscornia and Pedro de Mendoza. If you’re planning to use the cycling route, check current route conditions in advance, as they may change.
San Isidro Partido: Regional Addition
The broader destination of San Isidro Partido is home to Parque Natural Municipal Ribera Norte. It covers 50 hectares and includes part of the RĂo de la Plata as far as the Costanero Channel. The park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except when it rains or the river floods. Check these hours before your visit. Four Tren de la Costa stations are also located in San Isidro Partido: Anchorena, Barrancas, San Isidro and Punta Chica.
Keep in mind the different schedules: the craft fair takes place on weekends, the historic center tour is held on the second Sunday of the month, and the cathedral has daily visiting hours, with an exception during Mass. This makes it easier to match your travel dates with your planned activities.
