San Isidro Partido offers different starting points for planning your trip: the RĂo de la Plata and its natural riverbank, routes connected with the Tren de la Costa, and historic sites and culture in the city of San Isidro. You can plan your stay around nature, activities or culture. For specific visits, opening hours, exceptions and event dates also matter.

RĂo de la Plata: Nature and Views

Parque Natural Municipal Ribera Norte covers 50 hectares and includes part of the Río de la Plata up to the Costanero Channel. It is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except during rain or when the river is high. Check opening hours and conditions before your visit. Windsurfing clubs are located along the Corredor de la Ribera on the Río de la Plata—a further point of interest for anyone interested in watersports by the riverbank.

In the city of San Isidro, Paseo de los OmbĂşes was the first public scenic promenade overlooking the RĂo de la Plata. It is also known as Paseo de los Tres OmbĂşes and was formerly called Barranca de los OmbĂşes. The promenade's historic name and its river views give it a different focus from the Ribera Norte nature area.

Tren de la Costa Routes and Stations

Four Tren de la Costa stations are in San Isidro Partido: Anchorena, Barrancas, San Isidro and Punta Chica. A cycling route runs from Anchorena Station to San Isidro “R” Station and stays within the partido. It offers an outdoor ride along the tourist train's scenic stations.

The “De cara al río” route through San Isidro is a separate option: you can explore it on foot or by bike and connect it with the Tren de la Costa. This means there are different options—a cycling route with named stations as its starting and ending points, and a route described as suitable both for walking and cycling and as connecting with the train. The four station names also help you locate the railway within the partido.

Villa Ocampo and Historic Sites

Villa Ocampo is in the city of San Isidro. It was donated to UNESCO in 1973 under a testamentary provision. Visits are available on Fridays from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; an online ticket is required. Guided tours take place on Fridays at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Places are limited. Check booking requirements before you travel.

Quinta Los Ombúes, home to the Municipal Museum, the Library and the “Dr. Horacio Beccar Varela” Historical Archive, was declared a National Historic Monument. Quinta Los Naranjos, in the city of San Isidro in Buenos Aires Province, was granted the status of a site of national historic interest. Museo del Juguete de San Isidro offers a different cultural focus: its mission includes collecting, preserving, promoting and expanding experiences of play and toy use.

Guided Tours and Market Dates

The traditional “Visita a 7 iglesias” guided tour visits churches in different towns in the partido with expert guidance, introducing their features and history. The tour was announced in 2024; check before you travel whether it is being held again. This makes clear the difference between this date-dependent offering and the historic sites with permanent designations when planning your trip.

An arts and crafts market takes place at Plaza Mitre on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. As market dates may change, check the details before visiting. Along with Villa Ocampo's tour times and whether the church tour is being offered again, these are specific dates to coordinate in advance—while the nature area, routes and historic designations provide further guidance for choosing what interests you on your trip.
