The viewing point of Catedral de La Plata is about 70 metres above ground and offers a panorama of the city and its surroundings. At street level, the founding plan presents a different view: it connects 20 squares of different designs through eleven avenues running perpendicular to one another. The views and the city layout thus offer two distinct ways to experience La Plata. When planning a stay, you can discover the cityscape and culture at specific places rather than viewing the city merely as a backdrop for individual visits. The city layout can therefore be considered as a cohesive theme: the relationship between the squares and avenues is part of the founding plan, not just the individual destinations.

The Cathedral and the City Plan

The temple of Catedral de La Plata is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; admission is free. If you are planning your visit for a specific day, check the opening hours again before your trip.

Museums Exploring City History and Craftsmanship

The Museo y Archivo Dardo Rocha preserves Dardo Rocha’s collection and the historic house. It also plans educational activities for school students. The Museo Del Ladrillo in Ringuelet, Partido de La Plata, focuses instead on the social, cultural and technological heritage of brickmaking, including its significance to the beginnings of La Plata. The two museums have different focuses: the collection and historic house at one, and the history of a craft and its role in the city’s beginnings at the other. Those interested in cultural history will find different themes to shape their trip around.

Walks with Different Focuses

The city walk through Paseo del Bosque includes the lake, its landing and boats; the Planetarium is also part of the route. If the boats are important to your plans, check for current information about boat operations before your visit, as these may change.

The guided city tour of the Meridiano V neighbourhood offers a different cultural and historical perspective: it explores the area’s railway history and heritage, as well as its development into a cultural district. The starting point is the provincial railway station at the intersection of 17 and 71. Unlike the Paseo del Bosque route, which includes the lake and Planetarium, Meridiano V focuses on railway and cultural history.

Performing Arts and Finding Accommodation

The historical repertoire of Teatro Argentino included symphonic, symphonic-choral and chamber works, as well as operas, operettas, zarzuelas, classical ballets and other forms of dance. If you are planning to attend a performance, check the current schedule.

With this priority in mind, you can choose hotels in La Plata that are better suited to your trip.
