Ad-Dakhla offers several different ways to experience water and landscape. In Dakhla itself, you can fish from the shore using a surf rod, or rent a Zodiac and explore the local waters with a guide. The nearby beaches offer a range of experiences, from kitesports and surfing to peaceful swimming; other destinations include boat trips, overnight stays in tents and exploring a distinctive landscape on foot. This distinction is helpful when planning: not every experience is in Dakhla itself, and the activities have different focuses.

Water Experiences in Dakhla

When surf fishing, you stay on the shore. Renting a Zodiac and exploring the local waters with a guide offers a different perspective. The two activities therefore differ in kind: one involves fishing from the shore, the other a guided exploration on the water. If the Zodiac is essential to your plans, check its current availability in advance.

Beaches with Different Highlights

PK25 Beach is on the lagoon side near Dakhla. It is considered a kiteboarding spot, where favorable winds make tricks possible. At the same time, PK25 is regarded as a place to relax and enjoy peaceful swimming in the clear, calm lagoon water. Sporting activities and a quiet stay by the water come together here.

Foum El Bouir is also near Dakhla, but offers a different focus: the beach is considered a surfing spot and a meeting place for surf enthusiasts, and its atmosphere is described as livelier. PK25 and Foum El Bouir thus differ both in the activities mentioned and in their described atmosphere. When choosing a beach based on these highlights, you can weigh kitesports and peaceful swimming at PK25 against the surfing and livelier atmosphere at Foum El Bouir.

Other Nearby Destinations

The Parc des Huîtres is near Dakhla and combines two activities: you can sample oysters there and take boat trips through the canals. If these experiences are relevant to your plans, check in advance whether they are currently available.

At the beaches of Puertito and Puerto Rico, visitors can spend the night in tents beneath the starry sky. Check in advance whether this option is currently available if you plan to include it in your trip. The Tip of the Dragon is also considered a spot in the area for fans of gliding and board sports.

Sebkha Imlili is near Dakhla, 130 kilometers southeast of the city. There, you can explore the dunes and distinctive landscape on foot. As well as beaches and water-based activities, the surrounding area therefore offers a different kind of landscape experience.

Nature and Culture of Western Sahara

In Western Sahara, Dakhla Bay and its lagoon are a habitat for migratory birds, flamingos, turtles, Mediterranean monk seals, rays and humpback dolphins. This habitat is part of Western Sahara’s regional natural context; seeing these animals during a visit is not guaranteed.

The Erqueyez archaeological site is in Western Sahara and belongs to the wider regional context, not to Ad-Dakhla’s local destinations. Surveys conducted in 2002 recorded more than a hundred rock overhangs with rock paintings there. Alongside the landscape and wildlife, archaeological traces are therefore part of the wider regional context.
