Discoveries in Tây Ninh range from Óc-Eo temple towers and a Cao Đài complex to Khmer traditions and natural attractions such as mountains, forests and lakes. Historic structures tell stories of very different eras, while crafts and festivals offer insights into living cultural traditions.

Temple Towers, Faith and Traditions

Chót Mạt Tower was built around the 8th century AD as a structure of the Óc-Eo culture. It is one of three surviving temple towers in southern Vietnam. The ancient Bình Thạnh Tower is also a surviving architectural monument of this culture and is considered one of the valuable ancient monuments of Tây Ninh and Vietnam. It is located in Ấp Bình Phú, Xã Bình Thạnh, Trảng Bàng, Tây Ninh. The history of Chót Mạt, dating to around the 8th century, stands in clear contrast to the Tòa thánh Cao Đài Tây Ninh: construction began in 1933, and it was completed in 1955.

The Tòa thánh complex includes the Holy See, the Phật-Mẫu Temple and a stupa. Visitors must remove their shoes before entering; check the current rules before your visit. The complex therefore comprises more than a single building, with several named components that are key to understanding its religious and architectural character.

The Khmer Khedol Pagoda also represents a distinct cultural tradition. Its architecture is traditionally Khmer, and it preserves the cultural identity of the Khmer community. Chùa Khedol was founded in 1811. Its Pali name is Botumkirirangsey, meaning “the radiance of the lotus blossom near the mountain.” Each year, the pagoda holds the Khmer festivals Chol Chnam Thmay, Sen Dolta, Ok Om Bok and Kathina. If you would like to attend one, check the dates locally.

Another festival is dedicated to Núi Bà Đen and Bà Linh Sơn Thánh Mẫu: it takes place on the fifth and sixth days of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. It has been recognized as national intangible cultural heritage since 4 September 2018. The mix of fixed calendar dates and lunar-calendar dates makes Tây Ninh’s cultural events a distinct part of planning a trip.

Chùa Thiền Lâm, also known as Chùa Gò Kén, is more than 100 years old and was the first temple built in Tây Ninh. Its architecture combines Eastern and Western cultural influences, while seeming both classical and modern. Together with the Khmer structures and the Cao Đài complex, it shows the variety of religious architecture and traditions in the region.

Mountain, Forest and Lake

At Núi Bà Đen, the Vân Sơn cable car takes visitors from the foot of the mountain to the summit in about eight minutes. This stated short travel time gives an idea of the ascent; as operating details can change, check the current schedule before your visit.

Lò Gò–Xa Mát National Park is an ASEAN Heritage Park. The 32-metre-high Trảng Tà Nốt observation tower offers a special view over forests and wetlands. Hồ Dầu Tiếng, meanwhile, is an artificial lake considered a day-trip destination with tranquil scenery, rocky reefs and small islands. The natural attractions therefore offer a range of experiences, from forests and wetlands to a mountain summit and lakeside scenery.

Crafts and Other Experiences

At Trảng Bàng’s rice-paper craft village, visitors can learn about the production process and buy Bánh tráng phơi sương as a regional specialty. The craft preserves a cultural tradition passed down through generations. A visit combines an insight into the production process with a local specialty—another way to discover Tây Ninh beyond its temples and historic buildings.

Long Điền Sơn amusement park includes a water park with numerous games. Its lawns also offer opportunities for camping and team-building activities. As the offerings can change, check the current options for these activities in advance.

Historic memorial sites are also among the discoveries: the Junction City Victory Monument commemorates the 82-day Battle, or Operation, Junction City, from 22 February to 15 April 1967. After its restoration in 2005, the Căn cứ Trung ương Cục miền Nam memorial site was opened for sightseeing and visits focused on historical remembrance.
