Two distinct themes take center stage when sightseeing in Libertador: plants in the collection at the Jardín Botánico de Caracas and the Centro Histórico Patrimonial de Caracas tourist route. The garden invites you to learn about and observe the plants; the route offers a different approach to your stay.

Garden visit and historic route

At the Jardín Botánico de Caracas, visitors can explore ten hectares of flat grounds divided into sections. Here, you can learn about and observe the plants in the collection. The size and layout give a visit to the garden a clear structure, with observing the plants at its heart.

The Centro Histórico Patrimonial de Caracas tourist route was confirmed by the Venezuelan Ministry of Tourism and can be experienced with @viajescaracas.sa. Confirm the operating arrangements before your visit. This lets you choose your sightseeing focus based on your interests: plants in the garden or the confirmed route.

More highlights in the wider destination of the Capital District

In the wider destination of the Capital District, Parque de Recreación Zoológico de Caricuao is another highlight for visitors. It opened on July 31, 1977, covers 630 hectares, and is located in southwestern Caracas in the Distrito Capital. The park is divided into seven sections. Among the best-known are the African and South American plains: animals live there in large open grasslands, separated from the public by natural barriers and ditches.

At the Planicie Sudamericana, visitors can see animal species typical of the Llanos, the forests, and the Venezuelan Andes. The plains and the Planicie offer different highlights: while the plains mentioned are described by their open grasslands, the Planicie Sudamericana brings together animal species from several different landscapes.

The park landscape also shapes this regional setting. Most of its 630 hectares consist of protected forest surrounding the paved paths. Large Caobo, Ceiba, and Apamate trees provide shade along the paths. Kiosks and green spaces suitable for picnics are also located along the paths. Park guides inform visitors about how to treat animals respectfully, feed them properly, and the importance of veterinary care.

Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas offers an architectural perspective in the wider destination of the Capital District. It was built between 1940 and 1960 based on a design by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva and is considered an outstanding example of modern architecture. The grounds also include the Botanical Garden. Here, the period of construction, architectural design, and connection to the garden are distinct themes alongside observing plants and animals. In the wider destination of the Capital District, visitors can hike in Parque Nacional Waraira Repano via official entrances or firebreaks, or take the Sistema Teleférico Waraira Repano to the top.
