Valencia offers a variety of ways to enjoy a trip: walks along the Río Cabriales, historic sites, museums and cultural traditions. When choosing a hotel, you can consider which topics interest you most. The parks invite you to enjoy outdoor activities, while historic buildings and exhibitions offer different perspectives on the city.
Parks and Exercise
Parque Negra Hipólita – Fernando Peñalver is located on the banks of the Río Cabriales in Valencia. Among the trees and wildlife, it offers opportunities for sports and walks. Exercise and yoga are also among the activities mentioned. Paths, trees and small rivers also feature in descriptions of Parque Fernando Peñalver. This gives you several reasons to spend time in the park: a walk, exercise or yoga. You can decide what to focus on based on what you would like to do during your stay.
Historic Sites and the City’s History
In July 2025, the tourist route “Conoce el Corazón de Valencia” passed through the historic center. The listed stops included Plaza Bolívar, Calle Colombia, Plaza Sucre, Casa Páez, Casa de la Estrella, Casa Museo Pocaterra and Plaza Bicentenario. If you would like to include this route in your plans, check in advance whether it is currently operating.
Casa de La Estrella brings together several chapters of the city’s history. It dates back to around 1660 and was built as the city’s first hospital, under the name San Antonio de Padua. On February 25, 1980, it was declared a National Historic Monument. Teatro Municipal de Valencia is recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site of the Nation. In January 2026, residents from Flor Amarillo, Santa Rosa, San Blas and La Isabelica visited the theater’s historic rooms as part of the “Descubre el Teatro” program.
In El Viñedo is the open-air museum Museo al Aire Libre “Andrés Pérez Mujica”, also called “Plaza de las Esculturas”. In May 2025, following its redesign, the Museo al Aire Libre “Andrés Pérez Mujica” displayed 31 works by artists and sculptors from Carabobo. Its open-air setting and sculptures give the visual arts their own distinctive form alongside the city’s historic buildings and museum exhibitions.
Museums and Cultural Expressions
In 2024, the Museo de la Cultura on Avenida Paseo Cabriales was a venue for cultural and recreational activities and exhibitions for children, teenagers and adults. At the start of the school holidays in July 2024, two exhibitions were open to the public there free of charge: “Conectando Continentes” by Ramón Aular from Carabobo and “Retrografía”. The latter brought together retro and rock, and explored the legacy and career of the Venezuelan bands “Desorden Público” and “Sentimiento Muerto”.
In May 2026, the Museo de la Cultura presented the exhibition “Portadores: memoria de un pueblo”. It showcased traditional cultural expressions from Carabobo, including the Pastores de Aguas Calientes y San Joaquín, the Baile de la Hamaca, the Velorio de la Cruz de Mayo and Joropo con violín. The range of themes extends from retro and rock in “Retrografía” in 2024 to traditional cultural expressions in “Portadores” in May 2026. If you are planning a museum visit, it is worth checking the current program.
Religious Heritage and Festivities
Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Socorro is considered a National Monument of historical value and is the official place of worship for Valencia’s patron saint. The festivities in her honor were described in 2024 as following a set annual schedule: they begin on the last Sunday in October and end on the Sunday after November 13. For 2024, the festivities were announced to begin at Catedral de Valencia on October 27. That date is a specific historical detail; for a future trip, the relevant event dates are those scheduled for that year.
More Attractions in Carabobo State
There are also cultural and wildlife-related attractions across Carabobo State. Zoo Aquarium de Valencia in Carabobo State includes areas such as a serpentarium, aquarium, aviary, zoo and petting farm. A report from June 2026 also mentioned the culinary weekend event “Cocina en Vivo” at the Museo de la Cultura. Visitors can sample typical dishes from the 14 municipalities there. Since the report listed the event as a weekend offering, it is advisable to check the current schedule before visiting.
