Lake Geneva is located on the shore of Geneva Lake. In Downtown Lake Geneva, Riviera Beach is next to the historic Riviera building. The 21-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path circles the lake. This distinguishes the perspective of a specific place in the center from a view of the lake as a whole.
Lakeside and History
A historic marker in Library Park describes a 26-mile lakeside trail used by several Indigenous cultures between 2500 BCE and 1836 CE. This includes the history of the Potawatomi tribe under Chief Big Foot: they traveled this trail between their villages near the present-day locations of Fontana, Williams Bay and Lake Geneva. The 21 miles refer to the Geneva Lake Shore Path that circles the lake; the 26 miles are part of the historic description on the marker.
Library Park is also home to the Lake Geneva Public Library. It was designed by James R. Dresser, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The park therefore brings together two distinct cultural connections: the marker about the earlier use of the lakeshore and the library’s architectural design.
Nature in the Heart of Lake Geneva
The Samuel Donian Wetland Preserve is in the center of Lake Geneva, just off Main Street in Downtown Lake Geneva. From its observation platform, you can look out over the White River. A wheelchair-accessible walkway runs along higher ground, and a boardwalk leads to a seating area by the water. If you plan to use these facilities during your visit, check their condition in advance.
Entertainment and Things to Do
The Tristan Crist Magic Theatre is an entertainment destination in Lake Geneva. The building was designed and built as a venue for a theatrical magic show. Visitors interested in stage concepts will find a concrete connection here between the intended use and the building.
The Lake Geneva Cruise Line was founded in 1873. It offers narrated sightseeing cruises focused on scenery and views, as well as brunch, lunch and dinner cruises. The narrated cruises put scenery and views at the center; the other formats can be distinguished by meal. Operating periods and schedules may change.
Flat Iron Park is located on the shore of Geneva Lake in Downtown. It hosts major festivals and events, including Lake Geneva Concerts in the Park, Winterfest, Art in the Park and Venetian Festival. On the Upper East Side of Lake Geneva, Geneva Lake Distilling + Winery offers wine tastings. In the Lake Geneva area, Lake Geneva Ziplines & Adventures offers professionally guided zipline tours: the tours include nine ziplines, five sky bridges and four spiral staircases. The options range from places within the city to a guided activity in the surrounding area. Before your trip, check event dates as well as schedules and operating details for the offerings that interest you.
