Elkhart Lake is 118 feet deep and covers 286 acres, about 116 hectares. When planning your visit, options range from a public sandy beach and a boat launch to water sports activities.
Beach and Water Sports at Elkhart Lake
Fireman’s Park and Beach is the only public beach in Elkhart Lake with a sandy shore. It has a concession stand, picnic tables, grills, sand volleyball courts, and clean restroom facilities. It operates seasonally, and amenities may change; check current conditions before your visit.
A public boat launch is located on County Highway P, just south of County Highway JP. Local rules may change, so it’s worth checking the current regulations before setting out. Elkhart Lake Watersports offers the public water-skiing and wakeboarding lessons, as well as water-skiing and wakeboarding boats. Other offerings include stand-up paddleboards, tubing, pontoon boat rentals, guided party boat rides, and kayaks. Availability and reservations may change; ask about current options for your preferred date.
The offerings have different focuses: the beach is all about sand, picnics, and grilling, while Elkhart Lake Watersports offers everything from lessons and boards to rentals and guided rides. This lets you tailor your time by the water to the activity you want, without combining these options into a single outing.
On the Ice Age Trail and Getting Creative
The LaBudde Creek Segment of the Ice Age Trail is a 3.35-mile section of the Ice Age National Trail. It crosses the Labudde Creek State Fishery Area in Elkhart Lake. The route may change; check the current trail alignment before setting out.
The Art Room offers a different kind of activity, with art classes, workshops, parties, and custom-designed art experiences for all ages. Since individual offerings may change, it’s worth checking current options in advance.
Local History and Motorsport
In the town center, the Elkhart Lake Historic Depot and Museum preserves original railroad station furnishings, newspaper clippings, photos, and memorabilia. The collection documents the history of the resort community. Another perspective on local history comes from the two historic race circuits of the Elkhart Lake Historic Race Circuit, which run around Elkhart Lake.
Throttlestop is also dedicated to historic vehicles. It features a rotating collection of more than 200 historic motorcycles, 75 display vehicles, and a selection of engines. The collection may change; check what is currently on display before visiting. Road America is an event venue offering special activities for groups of all sizes. Alongside the documented resort history, historic race circuits, vehicles, and events therefore offer distinct themes to explore during a stay.
Summer Market and Seasonal Planning
The Elkhart Lake Farmers & Artisans Market is a Saturday morning tradition during the summer months. It offers crafts and fresh produce. Market days and vendors may change; check current dates before you travel. When planning, it’s worth distinguishing seasonal market and beach offerings from event offerings that are open year-round, and checking the relevant visitor information for each.
