For planning your trip, Kearneysville offers three distinct themes: James Hite Park, the historic Traveller’s Rest farm complex, and the region’s orchard history. There are also two events with specific, but time-limited, dates.

Park and Agricultural History

James Hite Park covers 119 acres and is a community park in Kearneysville. As a named park, it offers a different connection to the area from the historical themes; its acreage gives a sense of its size.

Traveller’s Rest is a National Historic Landmark with a historic farm complex, approximately half a mile west of Kearneysville. A farm complex draws attention to the historic site as a whole, not just a single building. For travelers interested in cultural heritage, Traveller’s Rest is a tangible point of reference for the area’s rural history.

Rellim Farm is considered a pioneer of the commercial fruit-growing industry that shapes West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle. This provides a different focus from Traveller’s Rest’s farm complex: the emphasis is on the importance of fruit growing to an entire region. Visitors interested in exploring local history through agriculture can consider these two themes from different perspectives.

Rellim Orchard offers locally grown apples, peaches, pears, and cherries in season. These four types of fruit give the agricultural theme a tangible connection to seasonal produce. If you choose orchards as a travel interest, you can plan your trip around the season accordingly.

Events and Their Dates

The USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center holds a free annual Earth Day Open House at 11649 Leetown Road in Kearneysville. The 2026 event took place on Sunday, April 26, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The family-friendly demonstrations explored scientific activities in the community, including topics related to insects, birds, and fish. The program also included live animals and crafts. This makes the event a different kind of reason to visit than the historic farm sites: a clearly defined afternoon focused on science.

The Jefferson County Fair has been held since 1953 and takes place at the Jefferson County WV Fairgrounds, 1707 Old Leetown Pike, in Kearneysville. Its 2026 edition ran from August 16 to 22; during that edition, a midway was open to the public. In terms of duration, the fair differs from the three-hour open house: its 2026 edition spanned seven calendar days.

Both of the 2026 event dates mentioned have passed. If you want to plan your trip around a later edition of the open house or fair, check the specific dates before setting your travel dates and booking accommodations. For a visit not tied to an event, the park, cultural heritage, and orchard history can cater to different interests without requiring you to plan around a fixed event schedule.
