North Fork Park combines a major outdoor recreation area with a special designation for its night sky. The park covers 2,600 acres and is located on the east side of the Wasatch Mountains. It is an International Dark Sky Destination and one of nine International Dark Sky Parks in Utah. Camping, Nordic activities, and hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails give the area a wide range of outdoor pursuits.

Water and mountain views at Pineview Reservoir

Boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing are available at Pineview Reservoir. The reservoir offers views of the surrounding mountains. This means visitors can enjoy different kinds of experiences: time on the water and scenery that can also be appreciated from shore. Access to the water depends on seasonal conditions and current facility advisories.

Day-use parking is available at Anderson Cove Campground, Cemetery Point, and Middle Inlet. Availability and construction-related restrictions vary over time, so check current advisories before you go. This helps you plan a visit to the reservoir more deliberately without assuming a particular activity or parking spot will be available.

Trails from easy walks to the Ogden Valley

Trail lengths also vary considerably. The Ogden Nature Center has 1.5 miles of walking trails. The Ogden River Parkway is about 4.4 miles long. These figures describe different trail options and can help you consider trail length when choosing where to go. The Nature Center is also home to more than 20 Utah-native, non-releasable birds of prey, as well as snakes, salamanders, rabbits, and tortoises. Trail access may be affected by the season or maintenance; animal populations and programs may also change.

The Ogden Valley has interconnected, non-motorized trail networks for hikers and mountain bikers. They range from low-elevation valley canyons to high-alpine ridgelines. Ski areas also have different acreage figures: Snowbasin Resort has 3,000 acres of skiable terrain, while Powder Mountain has more than 8,464 acres of ski terrain. Snowbasin offers nearly 50 miles of hiking and biking trails; Powder Mountain has more than 30 miles of free multi-use trails for hikers and cross-country mountain bikers. Guided backcountry tours are also offered there, subject to seasonal availability and operator schedules. Trail access, route conditions, and operating conditions can change; check them before your trip.

Ogden: Railroad history and museums

In Ogden, the cultural trail leads from railroads to aviation. Union Station symbolizes Ogden’s role in American railroad history since the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. The station houses the Utah State Railroad Museum, the Browning Firearms Museum, the Browning Kimball Car Museum, and the Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Museum exhibits and operations can change; if you plan to visit one of the museums, check the latest visitor information beforehand.

Historic 25th Street is considered a cultural and culinary hub of Ogden. The Hill Aerospace Museum focuses on a different subject: it shares history related to the United States Air Force, Hill Air Force Base, and aviation in Utah, and offers distinctive learning experiences. Together, these places show how different themes—railroads, aviation, culture, and food—shape the character of the city.

Dinosaurs and recreational history

The George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park grounds include the main building, five exhibits, 70 dinosaur sculptures, and other facilities. The museum offers hands-on fossil-digging experiences and displays several life-size dinosaur skeletons. The zip line known as Glide Along has an ADA seat for children of all ages and abilities. If a particular exhibit or feature is important to your visit, check the latest information beforehand, as exhibits and park facilities may change.

Fort Buenaventura combines historical context with recreational activities. Miles Goodyear built the fort in 1846; it is considered Utah’s first and oldest settlement. Recreation options include camping, fishing, an 18-hole championship disc golf course, canoeing, and a playground. Since park offerings can change, it is worth checking their current availability before planning a specific visit.

Planning information

Route 674 connects Ogden Station with Powder Mountain. Park-and-ride locations are at Ogden Station, in Ogden Canyon, and in Eden. Routes and seasonal service may change; check the current schedule before your trip. This lets you choose among the places and activities mentioned based on your interests—whether you’re drawn to trails, water, museums, or the region’s history.
