Park City is nestled in the Wasatch Mountains. The destination combines a network of trails spanning more than 400 miles with winter sports access reaching the historic downtown and a prominent mining history. Recurring events add more dates to the travel calendar. Whether you want to focus on hiking, skiing, experiencing local history, or attending a festival will determine which aspect you put first.

Trails for Different Skill Levels

Park City’s trails include easy, family-friendly hikes as well as more challenging routes. There are also trails designated exclusively for hiking. So the options vary not only in size but also in difficulty and intended use. If you’re planning a specific route, check conditions and access before setting out, as both can change.

Among the mountain trails, the Mid Mountain Trail is designated an IMBA Epic. Park City is also the first IMBA Gold-Level Ride Center. These two designations offer additional context for the trail network without replacing the need to consider the specific options: for your plans, what matters is which trail suits your goals and what conditions currently apply there.

Ski Access to the Historic Downtown

Park City Mountain provides direct ski access to the historic downtown via the Town Runs. If you want to combine winter sports with a stay in the historic town center, you can take this access into account when planning your trip. Check the operation of the relevant routes and lifts before your trip.

Mining History in the Townscape

Park City has more than 400 historic sites. The Main Street Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The Mining Boom Era Residences Thematic District includes historically significant residences from the mining boom period of 1872 to 1929. Together, these details offer different ways to explore local history: a named historic district and residences associated with a clearly defined period.

The Park City Museum is located in Old Town on Historic Main Street. It preserves, protects, and promotes the history and heritage of Park City. Mining history is also visible throughout the town in museums, preserved buildings, and informational plaques.

At Utah Olympic Park, visitors can enjoy an interactive experience at the Alf Engen Ski Museum in the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center year-round. Since schedules and access should be checked before your trip, it’s a good idea to confirm both in advance.

Events and When to Visit

The Miner's Day Celebration takes place every year on Labor Day and includes the Running of the Balls on historic Main Street. In summer, Savor the Summit turns Historic Main Street into a mile-long communal table celebrating local cuisine. During the Kimball Arts Festival, Main Street becomes an open-air gallery. If you’re traveling for an event, check the dates and program before your trip.

Getting Around and Finding a Hotel

Park City Transit offers visitors free public bus service year-round. Routes and service levels can change, so check the current schedule before your ride.
