Brady's Run County Park covers nearly 2,000 acres. Its size makes the park a distinctive starting point for exploring nature; lakes, a waterfall, historic sites, and aviation history offer other perspectives as well. Depending on your interests, you can focus your trip on landscapes, cultural history, or technology.
Water, Parkland, and Natural Features
Brady's Run Lake can be used for boating and fishing. This connects nature with two specific activities on the water. Park offerings may change; before your visit, check whether the activities that interest you are available.
Raccoon Creek State Park is in southern Beaver County; Raccoon Lake covers 101 acres. This figure refers to the lake's surface area. The park offers public programs year-round, including guided outdoor activities, hands-on offerings, environmental education, and special events for all age groups. Programs may vary; if a particular offering interests you, check the current program information before your trip.
Buttermilk Falls Park is in Homewood Borough. This nine-acre natural area features a 40-foot sandstone formation and a waterfall. The combination of sandstone and water gives this place a different character from the lakes and parkland. Check current site conditions before your visit.
History in Buildings and Dates
The Harmonists founded Old Economy Village in 1824. The Village includes 17 historic buildings surrounded by gardens, is a National Historic Landmark, and tells the story of the Harmony Society. Its founding year, collection of buildings, and historical interpretation offer different ways to explore the site.
Fort McIntosh was built in 1778 and was the Continental Army's first fort north of the Ohio River. The Treaty of Fort McIntosh was signed there in 1785. The two dates mark different milestones: the fort's construction and the later signing of the treaty. This makes it possible to place the site's history in chronological order.
The Beaver Area Heritage Museum opened in 1998 in a restored freight depot that was then 90 years old and formerly belonged to the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad. The building's history offers a different perspective from the dates associated with the fort: here, the focus is on restoration and former railroad ownership.
Aviation Between Collection and Restoration
At Beaver County Airport, Air Heritage Aviation Museum operates a working museum and restoration facility. The museum owns and operates three airworthy warbirds; its collection may change over time. If you plan to visit, check the visitor arrangements before you travel. Through research, education, and preservation work, the museum is dedicated to historically significant aircraft, materials, and artifacts. It also displays a corresponding collection.
