A stay in Molalla can center on a range of interests: historic homes and exhibits, recreation on the nearby Molalla River, and regional experiences along a self-guided Farm Loop. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether history, water activities or regional producers are the focus of your trip. Each specific place and activity has its own character.

Historic Homes and Exhibits

The Dibble House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 19, 1974. The Vonder Ahe House offers a different historical perspective: built in 1869, it houses exhibits and some furniture from that era. It formerly served as a stopover or inn on the stagecoach route between Oregon City and Molalla. The two houses therefore differ in their historical points of interest: the Dibble House is notable for its inclusion on the register, while the Vonder Ahe House is notable for its construction date, furnishings and former role on the stagecoach route.

Historical artifacts are displayed at Ivor Davies Hall. These objects add another perspective on the past, complementing the buildings and furnishings found in the houses. Visitors planning a trip around historical themes can distinguish between the history of the buildings, furniture from that era and the artifacts on display.

A previous visiting schedule for the Dibble House Museum offered tours on Fridays and Saturdays from May through October, from 1 to 4 p.m., as well as by appointment. Confirm the seasonal schedule before your trip.

River and Outdoor Recreation

The nearby Molalla River is designated a Wild and Scenic River. Its management considers scenic, recreational, geological and cultural values. The river can therefore be understood not only as a place for recreation, but also through these different aspects of its protection and significance.

The Molalla River Recreation Area is about 10 miles southeast of Molalla. It provides river access as well as opportunities for picnicking, swimming, camping, whitewater boating and fishing. Activities range from a picnic or a swim to time on the water and a longer stay with camping. Its approximate distance and direction make the area a distinct part of trip planning.

Molalla Train Park covers four acres and has 4,200 feet of track. These are two different measures of the park: its area and the length of its track. When comparing recreational activities, visitors can distinguish this rail-focused park from river activities.

More Recreational Interests

Rosse Posse Acres Elk Farm offers tours in Molalla. Other activities are described primarily as past events: the Molalla River BMX track hosted ABA motocross races that attracted riders from across the Northwest. Sharp’s Green Acres Air Park was formerly the site of numerous regional model-aircraft competitions; the Pacific Coast Free Style Championship was also held there on the last weekend of July.

Skydive Oregon offered tandem or solo skydiving. If skydiving is part of your plans, check in advance whether these jumps are currently available. This keeps the distinction clear between a documented past offering and present-day planning, without grouping different activities into a single program.

Regional Route and Getting Around

In the regional context, the South Clackamas Farm Loop near Molalla is a self-guided tour of cheese makers, wineries and farmers’ markets. This makes it different from a single guided tour: the route includes several types of regional businesses and is self-guided. It’s a distinct option for travelers interested in food and farms.

OR-213 and OR-211 are important transportation corridors for getting around the Molalla area. OR-213 runs roughly north–south along the foothills of the Cascade Range. OR-211 runs mostly west to east: its western terminus is at Interstate 5, and its eastern terminus is in the city of Sandy. These different routes help put the roads in context when viewing your destinations on a map.
