East Brunswick Township offers a range of points of interest to consider when planning a trip: trails through woodland and meadow landscapes, park activities, and local history. The natural areas differ in their scenery, while the museum and Historic District offer their own ways to explore the town’s history.

Trails, Water, and Park Activities

Tamarack Hollow Preserve offers two miles of trails for hiking, walking, birdwatching, and photography. It is considered a family destination in both summer and winter. This means the focus is on both getting active on the trails and observing nature; the combination leaves you free to prioritize the activities according to your interests.

Bicentennial Park has a different focus: boating and fishing are among its offerings, along with walking paths and hiking trails. While boating and fishing help distinguish this park, Tamarack Hollow Preserve specifically mentions birdwatching and photography; both descriptions include walks and hikes. This lets you distinguish the sites by the activities you want to enjoy, rather than simply by the broad category of nature.

Ireland Brook Conservation Area extends across East Brunswick and South Brunswick. Several miles of trails pass through deciduous woodland and open meadows and run alongside Ireland Brook. Its location across two municipalities and its varied landscape are equally useful for orientation: in addition to the trails, woodland, meadows, and the stream are defining features here.

Another landscape highlight is Jamesburg Park Conservation Area, which extends across Helmetta, Monroe Township, Spotswood, and East Brunswick. It includes a distinctive outlying section of the Pine Barrens, with sandy uplands, pitch pines, oaks, blueberries, and huckleberries, as well as Atlantic white cedars in the wetlands. Rare and endangered plant and animal species are found there. Unlike the woodlands, meadows, and stream along Ireland Brook, sandy uplands and wetlands take center stage here. The two Conservation Areas therefore offer clearly distinct landscapes.

Local History and Culture

East Brunswick Museum is located in the Historic Village of Old Bridge in East Brunswick Township. It is housed in the former Simpson Methodist Church building, which was built in 1862. The collection includes local pottery from the Bissett, Morgan, and Van Wickel stoneware factories. The museum thus brings together two specific subjects: the history of the former church building and local pottery production.

The Historic District of Old Bridge is also located in East Brunswick Township. Its location along the navigable section of the South River attracted settlers starting in 1685. It was added to the New Jersey State Register in 1975; inclusion in the National Register followed in June 1977. The register dates mark two separate points in its historical recognition.

In the wider region, Playhouse 22 adds to the cultural offerings: it is a volunteer-run community theater in Central Jersey.
