Weymouth offers different options for a stay: trails and walking paths in Great Esker Park, an accessible overlook with views of the Back River at Osprey Overlook Park, and a visit to the Weymouth Historical Society in South Weymouth. You can plan park visits and local history as separate priorities. When choosing, consider whether you want to focus on trails, a river view, or a visit with a historical connection.

Two Parks with Different Features

Great Esker Park in Weymouth is one of the parks in the Weymouth Back River ACEC, which is managed by the two communities. The park has trails and walking paths, as well as a fishing pier. These offer different options for a visit: you can focus on the trails or consider the fishing pier as a distinct park feature. Both are part of the same park and can be considered together when planning your visit.

Osprey Overlook Park provides access to the Weymouth Back River. It has an accessible overlook with views of the Back River and a loop trail that connects to Great Esker Park. The overlook focuses on river views, while the loop trail connects the park to Great Esker Park. If you want to include both parks in your plans, this connection is a specific point to consider; the parks still have different features.

To choose one park as your focus, consider your interests: Great Esker has trails and walking paths, as well as a fishing pier; features at Osprey Overlook include river access, the accessible overlook, and the loop trail. The loop trail connects the two parks. This gives you a choice between a specific overlook and a connection between the parks.

Local History in South Weymouth

The Weymouth Historical Society is open at Holbrook Homestead in South Weymouth on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., except on holidays. Visits are also available by appointment. The Society maintains and operates Jason Holbrook Homestead. For a visit with a historical connection, you can plan for either the Wednesday hours or an appointment.

The listed opening hours and a visit by appointment are two different planning options. If you choose the Wednesday hours, allow for the 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. time slot and note that the Society is closed on holidays. If that time slot does not work, arrange a visit with the Society in advance. Opening hours and appointments may change; check the current information before finalizing your visit.
