From local history to baseball, Aberdeen offers a varied range of things to explore. The Aberdeen Historical Museum is dedicated to the city’s history; at the Aberdeen B&O Train Station, the focus is on railroads, commerce and community life in the Chesapeake region. There are also baseball and outdoor recreation opportunities.

History: Museum and Station

The Aberdeen Historical Museum collects, preserves and presents Aberdeen’s local history. The restored Aberdeen B&O Train Station dates from 1886. Historical and interpretive information, along with exhibits, explore railroads, commerce and community life in the Chesapeake region. The station is also a site on the Chesapeake Gateways Network and meets the criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

The two historic sites offer different points of focus: the museum centers on Aberdeen’s local history, while the station explores railroad and regional history. Another historical thread leads to food: in 1874, Aberdeen’s George Washington Baker perfected a method for canning sweet “shoepeg” corn.

Baseball in Aberdeen

At The Ripken Experience® Aberdeen, Cal, Sr.’s Yard is a two-thirds-scale replica of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Tournament offerings include formats with three to five games; formats may change. Check the current tournament details if you plan to make this a focus of your trip.

Another baseball connection is IBEW Local 24 Union Field at Ripken Stadium: as of September 5, 2026, it is the home field of the Aberdeen IronBirds of the MLB Draft League. Team and league lineups may change; check the latest information if this connection is important to your plans. Together, a tournament offering with a stated number of games and a stadium with a specific team connection provide two distinct baseball experiences.

Parks and Recreation

A shaded, circular walking path runs along the edge of Festival Park and is used for morning jogs. Festival Park also has two playgrounds. North Deen Skate Park and Inline Hockey Rink are free to use. These options range from a jogging path and playgrounds to skate and inline hockey facilities.

Travel by Amtrak

When planning your trip, note that access at Aberdeen Amtrak station is important: the two side platforms are currently accessible only via a pedestrian overpass, until further notice. Check the access notice before traveling.

Harford: Nature and History Across the Region

The wider Harford destination offers additional nature and history experiences. Susquehanna State Park lies in the Susquehanna River valley and features dense forest cover and rocky terrain. Boaters and anglers can launch at Lapidum Boat Ramp; check current operating conditions before using it. Rocks State Park encompasses 855 acres of rocky woodland in northern Harford County and has 3.5 miles of hiking trails. Deer Creek in the park is suitable for tubing. Kilgore Falls is one of the park’s main attractions and is considered to have the second-highest vertical drop of any waterfall in Maryland.

The climbing routes at King and Queen Seat are another regional option: they are 8 to 115 feet long and suitable for grades from 4 to 5.12. Beginners are advised to get professional training before climbing. Historic Jerusalem Mill Village offers a different way to explore history: it is an almost completely preserved mill village dating from the 1770s. Its buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and demonstrations of colonial cooking add to the experience. Check current dates before your visit.
